  • Excerpt: If you're old enough to remember when the original Playstation was $299, then chances are you'll remember the original Destruction Derby. That game featured lousy graphics, a bad framerate, and poor controls, but being able to destroy cars and watch parts (usually about two polygons) fly off was enough to look past the technical limitations of the game. Now, in 2004 Destruction Derby Arenas (DDA) attempts to recreate the original experience, and it almost does.

  • Summary: The online mode makes this game worth a rental for fans of the genre, but there isn't enough to Arenas to make it worth the $40 retail price.

Destruction Derby Arenas

GamersHell.com
26 February 2004
  • Excerpt: In a world of fear and terror, life is far from being safe and fun. A sad, yet undeniable, fact which keeps our spirits constantly rather low. But let’s not fill ourselves with despair and waste our lives away - there is always a bit of hope left at the bottom of Pandora’s charming box.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Destruction Derby Arenas is destined for the bargain bin in the near future, so if you simply must have it (though we'd be at a loss to see why) you'd be best advised to wait until then.

Destruction Derby Arenas

  • Conclusion: The overall feeling I get with DDA is disappointment - with its unremarkable looks, vague handling and physics it seems a pale imitation of its more illustrious and better-advertised forebears, and as a PS2 online game it fails to excite or impress.
  • Pros: Ummm… you can smash cars up a bit? (with friends).
  • Cons: Not a good-looking game, and it has frame rate problems., A general lack of graphical polish., No feeling of impact., Low detail cars and not enough damage modelling., We don't like the tracks or the silly futuristic WWE-style setting.
