Def Jam Vendetta

Into Liquid Sky
7 July 2004
  • Excerpt: AKI, who are well known for No Mercy for the N64 and Virtual Pro Wrestling brings its polished wrestling engine to the Gamecube (and PS2) in the form of an unconventional wrestling title. Not so much unconventional in terms of gameplay, but in terms of the theme.
  • Pros: Great wresting engine, Nice graphics and audio package, Easy to pick up and play
  • Cons: Needs more modes, Where's the Create-A-Wrestler option?, Rap/hip-hop theme may turn some off

  • Excerpt: Def Jam Vendetta is a wrestling game from EA Big, the makers of SSX, NBA Street, and many other great games. Def Jam is a wrestling game like the Wrestlemania series and just like most WWE titles with the style of all EA Big games. The difference is the wrestlers and the music.

Game Over Online
21 April 2003
  • Excerpt: In Vendetta, you enter the dark, seedy world of underground brawling, a sport that’s become “too gangsta for the garden,” as the game’s antagonist growls in the opening credits. A crime boss named D-Mobb and his posse of associates, who happen to be some of Def Jam’s more prolific artists, runs this...

Operation Sports
15 April 2003
  • Excerpt: Rap and wrestling is not an uncommon association, but having rappers as wrestlers is. Bring on Def Jam Vendetta, the newest game in EA Sports BIG library of games that take a slight twist from the norm to try and take a sport to an ‘extreme’ level of play and appeal to the not so typical gamer.

  • Excerpt: Def Jam Vendetta brings like-minded attitude and showiness of "professional" wrestling except omits all those real fake professionals from the spectacle sport and uses instead some bona fide attitude dudes from the rap music scene.

Def Jam Vendetta

1 April 2003
  • Conclusion: As a wrestling game, Def Jam Vendetta manages to succeed on most every level, providing surprisingly deep gameplay, quality graphics and sound, and a distinctive atmosphere. And while the game could have used a few more real-life artists and a bit more depth, Def Jam Vendetta is still strong enough...
