Excerpt: Looks aren't everything, but they sure get you far when you're trying to stand out from the enormous PlayStation 2 launch line up. Is DOA 2 Hardcore a one trick pony or is beauty more than skin deep?
Excerpt: Tecmo's Dead or Alive fighter debut on the PS oh, around the time Tekken 3 was released on the console. DOA was unique for its reversal system and mostly known for its busty babes. Underneath that lied an excellent brawler that was ready to take on Tekken 3 for the fighting crown. Tecmo's succession was great, they developed a smooth playing game, that had a lot going for it.
Excerpt: Dreamcast owners have been treated to some of the best fighting games in the history of console gaming, with Soul Calibur, Power Stone, and all those nifty li'l 2D Capcom titles already on the shelves. Adding one more to this winning list, Tecmo brings you Dead or Alive 2, and folks, Sega's fighting lineup is finally the cast of your dreams.
Conclusion: I don’t think that it’ fair to compare this game to Soul Calibur. This is a all-fist-out combat game, whereas Soul Calibur is a weapons based combat game. This game loses out in the solo player department, where you’ll be finishing the story mode with your favourite character is less than 10 minutes. A mission mode like Soul Calibur’s would have been brilliant. Where Dead or Alive 2 does shine through is with the multiplayer action.
Conclusion: Oh yeah! Dead or Alive is back with a bang! After the amazing Dead or Alive for the Saturn and PlayStation, Temco needed to create a sequel! The first was amazing, and the second one is even better! It is the most graphically impressive fighter I have yet seen, and the most playable! I must disagree with Faz on the replay value of the game, however.
