  • Conclusion: I won’t say Darkwatch has any real shortcomings, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this one has a few obligatory (and minor) bones to pick. For one, all of the Darkwatch Regulators look the same. And while I know (because I asked) this was done to achieve 60 fps on the Xbox version, I still think subtle differences could have been achieved.

Darkwatch

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: DarkWatch comes to us from veteran company Capcom and relative newcomer, the aptly named High Moon Studios. It is a bit of a mix between Resident Evil and the recent Red Dead Revolver , and shooter classic Doom . You play Jericho Cross, former outlaw turned enforcer with Dark Watch, an age-old organization bent on protecting the world against the worst of evils.

  • Excerpt: If you’re a rabid fan of vampires, the Wild West, or vampires in the Wild West, then Darkwatch might just tickle your fancy. Developed by High Moon Studios (formerly Sammy Studios), Darkwatch is a no nonsense run-and-gun first person shooter that takes a lot of its queues from similar FPS games like Painkiller and Serious Sam in terms of mechanics and frantic gameplay. The result is a game that almost gets everything right, but offers an otherwise enjoyable experience.

  • Excerpt: Question one: You're a train robber who— and I can't stress this enough— does not know that monsters are really real. You climb aboard a train and discover that all of the passengers have been brutally slaughtered by reanimated skeletons wielding sickles. Do you: A) run screaming from the train?

  • Excerpt: Capcom's Darkwatch may be a case of formulaic first-person shooter (FPS) gameplay, but it's a faithful following of the formula and fun because of it. What's more, the theme is exceptionally fresh and decidedly polished.

Darkwatch

TotalPlayStation.com
25 August 2005
  • Conclusion: There's tons of potential here, but it's mired by a lack of variety, pacing that charges through important bits, and a lack of distinct personalities or identifiable characters. It's decent, but what's there wasn't used nearly well enough.

  • Summary: A cross between Resident evil and Halo mixed in with a little bit of Blade (yes, we know blade is a movie!) It's a Zombie/Vampire FPS, seen them before, played them before, was Darkwatch going to add anything a little different?
