Could Have Been Amazing!

ABeeps, amazon.co.uk

  • Summary: Okay, to start off this review, Dark Cloud is NOT a bad game, however it is understandable to see why people would dislike it due to there being just as many negatives as there are positives. The premise, without giving anything away of course is this: You play as a young lad named Toan (or whatever you decide to name him) from a fantasy world known as Terra.

... basic and repetitive...

Filipe Messias, amazon.co.uk

  • Summary: ... yes, despite all the hype about this title (don't know about the sequel... yet), this is a fairly basic action RPG'ish game, that couldn't possibly appeal to anyone else other than a young child. The basic gameplay revolves around village areas you play around to rebuild (most world towns were wiped out by story events) using parts of the village (houses, mills, objects, and characters) scattered in orbs you collect in each specific village 'dungeon'.

Pretty Good, But Shouldn't Have Been a PS2 "Greatest Hit"

Gamer fiend, Amazon
19 August 2003
  • Summary: I rented this game after renting a few other great games for PS2 and after I've seen this game advertised as a PS2 "Greatest Hit". The storyline is decent, but the characters don't talk when the words appear--that was a bummmer. The graphics are excellent and the music is nice and pretty much like most RPGs. The character design is different and pretty cool. When you begin, you can't do any attacks or combo jumps or anything. That kind of surprised me.

Dark or Hazy?

tiggerfan..., Ciao
12 August 2003
  • Excerpt: "...the greatest form of flattery." Dark Cloud would be one such example, as it salutes both Zelda, in terms of the sword swinging, and Actraiser, in terms of the city building, while meshing in a randomly generated dungeon romp to make for a fun, though not terribly original, action-RPG on the Playstation 2. The story is about a Dark Genie who is released from his prison and then runs amuck in the world, trying to lay waste to it all. Thankfully the ...
  • Pros: very like zelda and actraiser
  • Cons: not many

This game is good , but....

Gamer fiend, Amazon
1 December 2002
  • Summary: If you are a fan of the Zelda adventures of N64, Final Fantasy, and other RPG fantasy games this is the game for you. But...there is one draw back...Your character is always whining for something...(not literally mind you)...He always needs food or water to recharge his enegry meter or (and here comes the dosy)...His damn weapon breaks and you need to either locate a new weapon or fix it which requires money and your wallet starts out with not a single coin to spare.

a mixed package

all_gamer, Amazon
17 November 2002
  • Summary: I was really excited when I first bought this game. Unfortunately, I was dissapointed. Don't get me wrong: the game starts out pretty well. You are Toan, a young man trying to restore his village (and many ohters) by fighting through dungeons and collecting atla, which contains pieces of the town/village that you are trying to rebuild. Unfortunately, after beating a few villages, I got bored of the somewhat repetative gameplay.

simple but fun

Ando, amazon.co.uk
9 September 2002
  • Summary: it's a good rpg, very addictive at first, which slowly turns to a slightly annoying rpg, obviously written by someone who's not learning from the mistakes of older games (for example, all enemies give the same ammount of experience, so you end up going round and round the easier dungeons trying to rack up exp, when you should be getting it a lot quicker by killing stronger monsters). having said that, it's stil fun and worth a go...

A darkly clouded RPG

Ashley Olson, Amazon
28 August 2002
  • Summary: When I brought this game I must be honest I was looking for more of a Zelda sort of game than a Final Fantasy but to my suprise Dark Cloud did'nt try to be either instead taking ideas from both while ideas of its own to new levels. Graphics This is where the game shines in my opinion the graphics are very nicely polished and can at times look exceptional for example buildings and normal village people stand out from a far and look very well presentated.

A NEW SOULBLAZER!...almost

fuzzysoul, Amazon
10 June 2002
  • Summary: Dark Cloud takes the proud Enix adventure/planner tradition of Actrasier and Soulblazer into the third dimension with beautiful cartoony graphics, some neat Zelda elements, and...boring dungeons. Not just boring, but RANDOMIZED boring dungeons. To play DC is to die the death of a thousand cuts.
