Cold Fear may be a good game, that's fun to play and offers the daily spine chills that gamers need, but it's far from being a masterpiece. When you take a look at what Capcom achieved with its latest Resident Evil title and what Konami prepares for us with the next Silent Hill, Cold Fear turns pale and fades into mediocrity. Read more

In conclusion we can say that Cold Fear is a decent game without anything else. If you can choose between this and Resident Evil 4, the latter gets the upper hand. Cold Fear is a good introduction to the genre or a nice sweetner until Resident Evil returns on PS2 and/or Xbox. Read more

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Resident Evil 4 is probably sitting in a corner blushing a deep crimson and awkwardly avoiding eye contact with Cold Fear . Perhaps accusing Cold Fear of being an average imitation of the Capcom classic is selling it somewhat short, yet the comparisons and influences are clear to see. Read more

Most of us play survival horror games for the same reason - we enjoy the thrill of being scared by a creepy setting filled with lurking horrors.  If a survival game fails to frighten, then it is just another action game.  So how does Cold Fear do in this regard?  Well, if you're surprised every time an enemy pops up out of nowhere then you'll find the game quite scary.  For the rest of us, a game needs more than a few surprise shocks and blood-smeared walls to truly... Controls are about as smooth as a badger’s behind, the story is boring and we’ve heard it all before, and it lacks the atmosphere that many other survival horror games have. It just feels too much of a chore to play as well. On the plus side the graphics aren’t too bad, but you don’t want to play a game just to look at do you? you are best off with something like ’Resident Evil 4’- which is actually a lot more fun to play. A survival horror game set on a deep sea vessel. The game feels very much like "The Thing" but set on a boat. It has some seriously jumpy moments and keeps you in a constantly alert status, fearing what is stalking you through the vessel. Read more
