Excerpt: Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is now using the mythos of the world created for their popular MMORPG EverQuest as the inspiration for games in new genres. The first of these new EverQuest games was a strategy game for the PC, Lords of EverQuest. Now SOE has released an action-RPG for the PlayStation 2 that draws its inspiration from Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance.
Excerpt: I can still think back fondly on my first experience with a Snowblind Studios product. Tucked into a cozy corner of a Moebius-themed arcade in San Francisco's Metreon mall, Interplay first showed off Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance to an intimate group of the gaming press. While most probably went to grab a drink or twelve, nobody left the event with anything running through the myriad of excited conversations other than the game.
Conclusion: You’re given three levels of challenge, and thankfully a bit more thought has gone into this, with each level requiring your character to have a minimum level of experience before embarking upon it. Much superior to just throwing extra beasties at you. To start off with you’ve got the medieval equivalent of the Aliens bug hunt. Goblins and Orcs have teamed up and are putting the smack down on the good folk of the land, so it’s up to you to help the good guys fight back.
