  • Excerpt: June 6th 1944. It’s a date that will be remembered for a long time by Europeans and American Allies alike. D-Day - or Operation Overlord - was that decisive and fiercely committed push that finally brought an end to the conflict that had all but shattered Europe over the previous five years. After delays brought about by bad weather and logistical problems, the morning of June 5th saw the final decision to go made by Allied Commander in Chief, General Dwight D.

  • Excerpt: *Created by Texas-based Gearbox Software, Brothers in Arms aims to be one of the most realistic and authentic World War II shooters ever. Based on a true story, the game puts players in the role of Sgt. Matt Baker, a D-Day paratrooper squad leader as he leads the squad through the European campaign. Each battlefield has been meticulously recreated from aerial reconnaissance images, US Army Signal Corps photos and eye-witness accounts of war-torn Normandy.

  • Excerpt: In the game, players assume the role of Sgt. Matt Baker of the 502nd Parachute Infantry, a man who inherits the command of a squad of 13 members during the D-Day invasion. Development team Gearbox does a nice job telling the story and making players interested. You can feel the bond between the player and his men. There's much more emotion involved in the game and in the soldiers' dialogue.

  • Conclusion: So what’s striking about it? Well, several things. First is the core idea of playing as a squad rather than as a one-man army. Although on one level BiA:RtH30 is a FPS where you play as Sgt. Matt Baker of the 101st US Airborne Division, you also have to control a squad – sometimes two or a squad and a tank – as you endeavour to complete your missions. And, boy, do you need your comrades’ help!
  • Pros: The ‘feel’ of the game is just fantastic – gritty, realistic, intense., Novel FPS mechanics which inhibit thoughtless ‘run and gun’ tactics., Squad controls are simple, effective and easy to use in the midst of battle.
  • Cons: Occasionally wayward AI (but this can be exaggerated, and has been in some reviews)., The rare technical glitch as the PS2 shows its age in trying to cope with a game that pushes its capabilities.

  • Summary: Brothers In Arms: Road To Hill 30 is a unique title that will hook you for days. While not quite as sharp as the XBox or PC versions PS2 owners certainly won't be complaining about this game either.

Weltkriegs-Shooter ins Genre gebracht.
  • Pros: Dichte Atmosphäre, Saubere Grafik, Einsteigerfreundliche Steuerung
  • Cons: Zeitweise Ruckler, Manche Einsätze sehr schwer geraten, GegnerKI nicht gerade berauschend
