  • Excerpt: When the folks at Core Design laid out their original plan of action for creating the Tomb Raider series, they can’t possibly have known what they were eventually going to be responsible for. No longer would bedroom coders and the smaller development teams try to make their mark on gaming with a side scrolling shoot-’em-up or sports game, rather, they would all strike a blow for equality by creating a 3D action/adventure title with a female lead character.

Five years later, she is sent to a Nazi-held castle in Argentina to assassinate the officers. Once there, she discovers that the Nazi's have dug up something in their hunt for a relic which they hope to use to to resurrect the demon Beliar.
  • Pros: Lots of fast and furious action, Large areas with some nice detail, Music sets a nice tone

Bloodrayne

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: Vampires, giant spiders, Nazis... and then it gets weird! Bloodrayne is aptly named, for the showers of blood and guts that accompany you everywhere you travel in the game. A really interesting experiment, and one well worth playing if you like a heavy dose of action. The graphics are very well done, to the point that most elements of this 3D Action game can be destroyed, marked up or otherwise affected.

  • Excerpt: Majesco's big fall title is a sultry little adventure game called BloodRayne. Half-human, half-vampire, and all woman, agent BloodRayne slaughters mutated zombies and Nazis at the same time. It's gorey, fun to play, and full of B grade horror goodness. Not for everyone, if this is your thing, you'll really love it. Click here.
  • Pros: ups: Fun gameplay; cool vision modes; lots of gore; great tongue-in-cheek undertones.
  • Cons: downs: Some slow spots; some clunky spots; maybe you don't like cheesy horror stuff?

  • Excerpt: 2002 has certainly been a good year for action/adventure games. From major hits like The Mark of Kri to sleeper greats like Drakan, fans of the action/adventure genre have more games than they know what to do with. The best part of this year's slew of action titles is that, for the most part, they offer a lot of originality. BloodRayne, an action based adventure game set in the early 1930's, is no different.

  • Excerpt: Majecso 's BloodRayne steals a page from the Blade storyline (the whole script, in other words) and puts you in control of a beautifully-brazen, vampire vexing vixen who happens to be, conveniently, half vampire, half woman -- a "damphir," replete with serious attitude and an exceptional amount sex appeal.

BloodRayne

Gamecell
19 October 2007
  • Conclusion: The graphics in BloodRayne are a rather mixed bag with a rather inconsistent approach to the amount of detail; such as the sheer amount of gore and body parts that unlike in most games don't disappear, but stay in place as evidence of your passing through, or conversely the big, ugly texture maps that are used in places. There's plenty of well-modelled scenery and furniture and a remarkable amount of breakable objects.
  • Pros: Rayne is cocky and uses the 'F' word, and we like that., Lots of butchery and gore., It's like Tomb Raider meets Angel - directed by Quentin Tarantino., Listen out for the joke about the bull and the lead pipe.
  • Cons: The dingy settings are all a bit miserable - you won't want to revisit., The hunt for Nazis goes on too long., A few graphical glitches can spoil the overall effect., The bouncy boobs are used so gratuitously that the developers should be embarrassed.
