Excerpt: Can the combination of Traveller’s Tales and Lego provide another hit? Building (pun intended) on the success of the Lego Star Wars brand, here is a similar explore and collect game set in Lego’s own sci-fi universe. The basic plot of the game is that the evil Piraka have stolen the Mask of Life and turned the inhabitants of the island of Voya Nui into nasty creatures.
Excerpt: Bionicle Heroes does a great job of portraying one of the many Nui lands this series of toys/books/movies has portrayed. This game, taking place in Voya Nui, shows off the lava flows, ice fields, jungles, rivers and mountains found in all Bionicle islands. That, along with the pretty well detailed character models, definitely does the Bionicle name justice.
Excerpt: Some games are clearly designed for a certain audience. While it's undoubtedly hard for game developers to create games that gain critical praise and massive sales, it's worth sparing a thought for the guys that slave away on titles aimed squarely at kids. Bionicle Heroes is such a title, and as such is a game that is likely to be perfect for fans of the Bionicle toys and movies, but offers little of interest for everyone else.
Conclusion: One of the positive things about this game is the graphics. Visually speaking, Bionicle Heroes is well done. TT Games has translated the look and feel of the Bionicle models into a whimsical and yet very convincing world. From plants to animals, you get the feeling that you're interacting with life-sized Legos, or at least as life-sized as your TV will allow. Lighting and shadow are well done, all the bells and whistles are out in force, and this is the PS2 version.
Summary: Bionicle Heroes takes you to the amazing island of Voya Nui, a world filled with bionicle heroes and villains, past and present. Take control of the heroic Toa Inika and battle the villainous Piraka in a fight for the future of the island.
Excerpt: Duplicating the success of one surprise hit can be a terrifying prospect for a new developer. The temptation, of course, is just to do the same thing again, and make sure that you pump out that sequel as fast as possible to ride the wave of hype built up behind the first game. UK-based developer Traveller's Tales is anything but a new developer, however, which is why it's such a mystery that even after releasing should have been a game that captured the slightly more...
