Excerpt: Beyond Good and Evil raises many questions, but one that stands high above the rest is also the simplest; just what genre is it? Released rather quietly by developers and publishers Ubisoft, BG&E came into the gaming scene, and although it didn’t make much of a stir in the charts, it created an abundance of joy for the gamers wise enough to indulge in its qualities.
Excerpt: From the creator of Rayman , Beyond Good and Evil creates a wonderfully imaginative world and forms it into a memorable and enjoyable adventure. Rarely, outside of adventures staring a certain young elf-boy from Nintendo, has an adventure been both engaging storywise and by the sheer ambiance that the game presents.
Pros: Wonderfully realized audio and visuals, Camera-based gameplay nicely implemented, Great story
Cons: Combat is lightweight, Minor framerate issues
Excerpt: In the future (four hundred years or so), you will have to take on the role of a female photojournalist in order to sift through a thick plot and large storyline. In this future you will be armed with your friends, a stick and a camera (yes, a camera). Well that's the way it would be if you were playing Beyond Good and Evil . The graphics in Beyond are outstanding.
Excerpt: I really love to get a little surprised by the games I play, and although that is hard to achieve in my field of work - since it is my job to stay informed on almost every game out there at all times - there are still games that positively surprise me every once in a while... If I perhaps heard of them, but didn’t expect them to be this good. Beyond Good and Evil is one hell of an example for this...
Excerpt: Beyond Good and Evil is the latest game from Rayman creator, Michel Ancel. However, the game has little in common with the limbless platform star's games, as Beyond Good and Evil is an Action-Adventure game similar to Zelda. The game's story follows the adventures of Jade, a young woman who is a photographer on the planet Hillys.
Excerpt: The truth is out there somewhere… Before I start this review, I want to allow you to think back to a time where games weren’t all about running in and shooting as many bad guys as possible and then moving to the next area and repeating this. Games weren’t about moving from village to village, slaying fantasy creatures and taking quests to get more gold and level up your character so that you can get more quests and continue this cycle.
Pros: Great story & characters, some truly original and well integrated gameplay elements, fantastic soundtrack.
Cons: A couple of extra levels would have been nice, but I’m grasping at straws to find anything.
Conclusion: This is a wonderful, rare gem of a game that really delivers on all levels; it looks spanking, plays like a dream and sounds divine. That, and it feels wonderfully different to most action/adventures – more than likely attributed to its European origins. Still, while playing sometimes it feels slightly more shallow than, say, Skies of Arcadia, which boasts a large cast of highly memorable characters; while this game also has a nice cast, the stereotypical definitions of...
