Summary: Baroque is total madness. The gameplay is straightforward but at the same time very complex, so it can be enjoyed by many ages. Baroque has an insane storyline and most of it makes no sense, however once you start figuring it out, it's genious. I love this game very much and it's a real head-trip too. The only thing I don't like is the way your level and items reset whenever you leave the tower. It REALLY ticks me off.
Baroque: Not the genre you think it is, but great if you like this type of game.

Summary: First of all, it should be known that Baroque is not a true RPG or a "Zelda"-ish game. A lot of people jump into this one thinking that that's what they're gonna be getting, and that's just not true. And then they get all disappointed and annoyed at it. Baroque is a Roguelike. Roguelikes all carry forth the tradition and style of the old PC ASCII game "Rogue".
Summary: Finally, a game for roguelike fans! This game is essentially a Japanese realtime Nethack with a unique storyline -- it's incredibly fun, in a masochistic way. Consequences for dying? Who would have come up with such a thing! I admit that I was skeptical of this game when I bought it. I've played my share of crappy, run-of-the-mill Japanese RPGs that drag on for hours in endless tedium.
Summary: This game is what it says it is. It is a hardcore dungeon crawler, for hardcore dungeon crawlers. 90% of the game is the repetitive task of running around a randomly generated maze killing monsters, playing with item combinations. However, if you enjoy that kind of game, this game is the BEST at it, hands down. Once you figure out the story (just keep throwing crystals at everybody) it gets down right addictive.
