Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance- Ahhh, it's alright.

  • Summary: If you're looking for a simple, straightforward hack and slash game, this is perfect. However, if you're looking for a game with more depth and challenge, this isn't it.
  • Pros: 1 or 2 player, customization of characters, lots of levels
  • Cons: Limited character selection, repetitive and boring at times

Oh my god, it's another one!

  • Summary: Best rented, not bought. It's too long to just rent for a while, and too short to own.
  • Pros: Great game. Very RPG-y
  • Cons: Cheap Cheat Codes

Not Recommended for PC Owners

  • Summary: If you like cool graphics and a deep story, then buy the game. But if you already own a PC, then buy BG or BGII instead.
  • Pros: cool graphics, nice story, good gameplay
  • Cons: not like the old D&D style, gets repetitive over time, not much thrill

Good game but a little monotonous

  • Summary: I rented this for a couple of weeks as a "test drive" before buying. In the end I decided not to buy a copy for myself but to be honest I might rent Baldur's Gate again to continue the game. I know I won't be deleting my save file anytime soon. Technically it is a notch above average. The graphics are great, if a little small due to the distance of the 3rd-person perspective. Lighting effects are excellent and the characters have good animation.

Hmmm!

  • Summary: I must admit I only recently got this and to be fair it's not that good,it looks great but the paltry three classes are a bit stingy and not starting with a character weapon is naff, the archane archer doesn't start with a bow and knows no spells, the fighter starts with a butter knife and although the sorceress starts with a spell you've only got to have roasted a couple of mice and you've no mana left!

Baldur-dash?

tom1clare, Ciao

  • Excerpt: "It seems the success of Baldur’s Gate as a console game has proven a slow-burner – though it has been a hit on the PC, I only recall reading about the console iteration in passing when it was ported to the PlayStation2 in 2001. Though reviews were of a good-not-great nature, the game certainly seems to have gained something of a following in the years following its release. Never one to miss an opportunity, I borrowed a copy of the game ...
  • Pros: Looks pretty, fun and accessible, some nice touches, good voice - acting
  • Cons: Lack of variety, not long enough, rather linear

Bit of a let down

  • Summary: Being a serious RPGer I thought this would be a challenge as all RPGs should be. Whilst the plot and gameplay were good the longetivity was terrible, I managed to complete the game in less than a day. However if you are new to this type of game then I would recomend this game to otherwise stick to ones like final fantasy or kingdom hearts.

Fun, but no substance

nafysmiley, Amazon
24 February 2003
  • Summary: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is pretty fun, but short, and it lacks much in the way of a story. Just to mention, it is nothing like it's namesake (The computer series). It is basically just a hack n' slash action RPG. Not the worst of that type of game, but it is far from the best. The gameplay is fairly basic.

Warning Addictive Game Ahead

  • Excerpt: "This is a good game to get you hooked. You choose your character to once again save Baulders Gate from an unknowen evil but this time Baulders Gate is not the only one at risk. Betrayl to Friendship it is interesting with puzzles just to keep your brain ticking over. However like most playstation2 games you wish the gameplay was slightly longer, it didn't take long for me and my brother to clock it but it is one of the best 2player games I've seen ...
  • Pros: great story line very addictive
  • Cons: not that many characters
