Summary: I rented this for a couple of weeks as a "test drive" before buying. In the end I decided not to buy a copy for myself but to be honest I might rent Baldur's Gate again to continue the game. I know I won't be deleting my save file anytime soon. Technically it is a notch above average. The graphics are great, if a little small due to the distance of the 3rd-person perspective. Lighting effects are excellent and the characters have good animation.
Summary: I must admit I only recently got this and to be fair it's not that good,it looks great but the paltry three classes are a bit stingy and not starting with a character weapon is naff, the archane archer doesn't start with a bow and knows no spells, the fighter starts with a butter knife and although the sorceress starts with a spell you've only got to have roasted a couple of mice and you've no mana left!
Excerpt: "It seems the success of Baldur’s Gate as a console game has proven a slow-burner – though it has been a hit on the PC, I only recall reading about the console iteration in passing when it was ported to the PlayStation2 in 2001. Though reviews were of a good-not-great nature, the game certainly seems to have gained something of a following in the years following its release. Never one to miss an opportunity, I borrowed a copy of the game ...
Pros: Looks pretty, fun and accessible, some nice touches, good voice - acting
Cons: Lack of variety, not long enough, rather linear
Summary: Being a serious RPGer I thought this would be a challenge as all RPGs should be. Whilst the plot and gameplay were good the longetivity was terrible, I managed to complete the game in less than a day. However if you are new to this type of game then I would recomend this game to otherwise stick to ones like final fantasy or kingdom hearts.
Excerpt: "This is a good game to get you hooked. You choose your character to once again save Baulders Gate from an unknowen evil but this time Baulders Gate is not the only one at risk. Betrayl to Friendship it is interesting with puzzles just to keep your brain ticking over. However like most playstation2 games you wish the gameplay was slightly longer, it didn't take long for me and my brother to clock it but it is one of the best 2player games I've seen ...
Excerpt: "BG: Dark Alliance on the PS2 is not much in comparison to it's big brothers on the PC platform. The obvious disadvatages of a console unfortunately make it difficult to pull off the same effect. No hard disk drive and a lack of RAM make for a much smaller game. The common features of all BG games and most RPG's are present, experience points, experience levels, lots of weapons, spells etc. But there are only 3 characters to choose from, each with ...
Pros: Graphically Pleasing, challenging
Cons: Short, limited characters, not as indepth as expected
