was a game that amazed just about everybody that played it. Its release back in 2001 showed that hack and slash games didn?t have to be limited to be fun, and its graphics were ahead of their time. Read more

The problem is that I wanted this game two years ago, and things have moved on a little since then - the need isn't quite as strong now. Still, the game is a nice distraction for the 8-12 hours that it'll take to get through. Read more

    • Crafting., Top hack and slash action that was loved so much in the first game.
    • Little improvement over the previous game., Scenery gets in the way too much.

The Dark Alliance series goes to a new developer and the results are solid, but not as spectacular as the original. With increased competition, the game is in the middle of the action-RPG pack. Read more

    • Easy to pick up action-RPG; diverse character set; weapon crafting is very interesting; great for Forgotten Realms fans.
    • Not as many multiplayer options as the original; lots of lackluster game design and art direction; lacks cohesiveness in almost every area.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was an action-RPG that was heavier on the action than the role-playing. Since the game was set in Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms universe, it could draw upon D&D’s well-known well-defined role-playing elements and use them as the basis for a good hack and slash dungeon crawler. The result was an exciting game that is the closest you can come to playing Diablo on a video game console. Read more

While it does have its share of bugs and bad points, overall this game is well worth buying if you enjoy the genre. Read more

    • Good, easy to follow storyline; plenty of armor and weapons to be found; Drizzt D’Urden and Artemis Entereri available as unlockable characters.
    • Voices are unappealing; it has a number of bugs that can inhibit gameplay.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II is very good, but it's certainly not the greatest Action RPG. With solid gameplay mechanics, a relatively long lifespan and a decent multiplayer mode, it should keep RPG fans who are looking for a more action occupied role playing game for weeks, maybe even months. The audio and visuals work well together, and the intuitive controls and commands keep the pace rolling forward at a steady pace. Read more

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2 (DA2) could be described as a “mystery wrapped in an enigma,” because it attempts to replicate the basic gameplay of the original, while subtly including new elements intended to turn the franchise on its head, which is no mean feat considering the original Dark Alliance game was also accused of turning the Baldur’s Gate franchise on its head as it made the transition from PC to console gaming. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 uses the same engine as the original, which may be good or bad for some people. The good part is the graphics remain the same and still look nice, but the bad is the camera, which can only be adjusted to two height settings. Closer views would have helped to make this game more playable. As for the special effects, they are still spot on, and the fire looks better than ever. Read more

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II is an enjoyable sequel to its popular hack and slash RPG ancestor both in story and gameplay. Escalating the 10-15 hour, 4-chapter, relatively linear gaming experience, five diverse-class and appealing characters are now available for adventuring from the start each with its own set of missions, and a new-fangled item-making workshop lets the player create powerful, exotic items. This game is certainly very fun and addictive, don't get me wrong; however, the designers very well could have implemented better graphics as it looks very much the same as the original. Still, this game is awesome and a great experience for probably any video gamer. As with the original, its replay value isn't teriffic, but you'll find yourself playing it over again from time to time. Read more

So, now that that’s out of the way, a story is present but it’s not the game’s selling point. In fact, it’s quite far from its selling point as it is rather bare-bones. It is there just to give a reason for the action happening. Basically, at the end of the first game, the heroes defeated the evil plaguing Baldur’s Gate but it turned out that they hadn’t stopped the threat completely. Read more

This series is developing nicely we now have 5 new characters to choose from and a further two to unlock. The game play remains the same but with a better storyline and a larger game world. Character development has also evolved there are now more special feats and skills per character with an opportunity to upgrade your class later in the game. The game is even better when played with friends. Read more
