An Extremely Average RPG

Lisa Shea "be the change you wish to see in t..., Amazon

  • Summary: This review was written by my son, James Shea. The first incarnation of the AtL series on the PS2, Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is a tactical RPG, though more the latter than the former. The game follows two viewpoints: that of Kharg, a human prince, and Darc, a Deimos (monstrous humanoid) slave. The two must unite to fight off a powerful army that seeks to capture the five elemental stones and gain ultimate power.

Could have been executed better.

Joseph Hobson Stowers III, Amazon

  • Summary: Overall this game has a good story and many surprises. However the graphics, battling system, and the characters are flawed. First let me begin with the graphics, they're not the worst I've seen, however they certainly aren't the best and they can look a bit cheesy (An example would be Kharg's pony-tail, it is a bit weirdly shaped). The same thing goes for the voice acting and battle voices (thank God you can turn them off).

Good game, combat gets very repetitive

ElfNeedsFoodBad, Amazon
26 February 2006
  • Summary: The story to this game progresses quite nicely and alternating story lines add to the interest. The combat, however, becomes quite repetitive after a while and starts to detract from the game. The use of voice acting is also quite inconsistent, with some cut-scenes using voice and others using text in seemingly the same sorts of situations.

OK on its own... big let down for fans

Zeph Greenwell, Amazon

  • Summary: I own all of the Arc the Lad games and have played through 1 & 2, I still haven't bothered beating three. When I heard this game was coming out I had to own it. We bought it and I started playing. First impression was, "This game is awesome!" but after playing for a while I lost my enthusiasm. I went ahead and finish the game and now I have a slight distaste for the game. I'll explain what I liked and what i didn't. The best part I would say is the battle system.

A Little Long Winded

Marc Ruby™ "The Noh Hare™", Amazon
15 December 2003
  • Summary: On a world that depends on magical energy for it's motive power two races vie for control of the scarce source of that power - spirit stones. Humans seek them out to run their maachines, and the Deimos, or demons, seek them because their very nature is magical. Children of a rare Deimos/Human relationship two brothers who were seperated at birth are drawn into a web of conflict that makes them mortal enemies - each raised by a different race, each sworn to defend their...

A completist's RPG

tirial, Ciao
3 January 2007
  • Excerpt: "...this is part of the Arc the Lad series, you do not need to have played any other games in the series for events to make sense. You switch between parties as the game progresses which can be irritating as, when you are getting used to one party, the game forces you to switch to the other. Effectively you need to build two independant parties to find your way through the game. The controls are easy to learn and anyone should be able to pick them ...
  • Pros: Innovative battle system, good use of voices and sound
  • Cons: Dull characters, story overall is uninteresting .

Decent story until the end

Suzi Tyndall, Amazon
30 June 2004
  • Summary: This was one of my main problems with the game. It tells a mildly interesting story. Then, at the end, they throw it all in the trash for some "friendship conquers all" junk. Bleah. Still, there are some positive aspects to this game. The battles are a little slow, but they're mildly entertaining. Character designs are decent, graphics are decent, music is decent...That's pretty much all there is to say. It's a decent game.

Arc is back!.. Well... Sorta...

Karl Jordan, Amazon
1 November 2003
  • Summary: A lot of people compare this game to Final Fantasy... I have no idea why THIS IS THE ARC THE LAD SERIES NOT THE FINAL FANTASY SERIES. So let's see this game as it is... as in... not final fantasy. Before they came in ATL through ATL III tied in so well. As a matter of fact you would swear ATL and ATL II were the same game, only a continuation. This game doesn't exactly do this...
