  • Excerpt: Many people have heard the above line from the Robert Frost poem “The Road Not Taken” which extols the virtues of taking the path that travels beyond the typical tried and true territory. However, one of the overlooked lines in the poem is “"And sorry I could not travel both..." But what if you COULD take both paths: The well-worn, comfortable path and the more daring non-traditional path?

  • Excerpt: Humanity. Throughout this species' history, it has left a trail of destruction and horror in one form or another in its path, justifying it as progress. Easily susceptible to the whims of hatred and animosity, such atrocious acts as murder, rape, racism, even war have all been committed over trifling desires fueled by greed and narrow-mindedness. However, like most phenomena, this violent trend works in phases, ending with cease-fire and restoration.

Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits

  • Excerpt: By Gary Kearney Role playing games run through such a wide spectrum of quality from the truly great to the why-did-they-do-this-to-me variety. Unfortunately it seems that there are many more of the latter than there should be, so much so that when just an adequate RPG shows up it is reason for rejoicing. So with that in mind and if you are a big fan of RPGs, it is time to rejoice because Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits is actually a better than average RPG.

  • Excerpt: Another day, another top-tier PlayStation 2-exclusive role-playing game. 2003 is shaping up to be the year of role-playing games and, for the most part, Sony seems to be on the sending and receiving end of things. Life is good for the diehard RPG enthusiast, who also happens to own a PS2, make no mistake. Jump on the bandwagon while the getting’s good, Shirley.

Arc The Lad: Twilight of the Spirits

TotalPlayStation.com
21 August 2003
  • Excerpt: As RPGs go, Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits bests almost every contender out there in pure clichéd richness. It's as if developer Cattle Call turned the first next-gen Arc the Lad game into a literal laundry list of RPG truisms. Don't believe me? Fine, Dr. Doubtful, we'll just run by the story shall we?

  • Excerpt: Last year, Working Designs released the once Japanese only Playstation RPG series Arc The Lad as a massive compilation here in the U.S. consisting of Arc The Lads I through III and the Arc Arena expansion for Arc The Lad 2. It received a warm welcome from the many who had wished the series to be released over here and Working Designs phalanx of zealous fans.

  • Conclusion: Arc: Twilight of the Spirits is een goede RPG. Hij bevat geen baanbrekende spelelementen maar biedt een knap verhaal, eigenzinnig vormgegeven met een blik op beide kanten van het verhaal.
  • Pros: knap verhaal tactisch turnbased combat eigenzinnige grafische stijl
  • Cons: weinig diversiteit in vijanden
