Excerpt: Although the day of traditional JRPGs is fast disappearing behind us, there are a few that continue to arrive on the aging PS2. Those who have become familiar with the genre over the past decade know what to expect: cutesy, appealing characters with that patented Japanese flair, colorful, diverse environments, and a storyline that’s well worth following.
Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica – Staff Review
6 February 2009
Excerpt: Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica is set a year and a half after the events of Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia . It’s a true sequel, though that does not become apparent until later in the game when references to Melody of Elemia start cropping up. The story centers on Croix, a knight of the Church of Pastalia, and a baffling epidemic that has been crippling many Reyvateils, the world’s magical songstresses.
Conclusion: There's no excusing the game's bugs and sloppy localization, but the rest of the experience is such a joy that it at least makes them tolerable. If you count yourself among the JRPG faithful, if you skip this one, you'd best turn in your membership.
