Conclusion: This game can be recommended as the PS2's finest average platformer. Practically a genre in itself, the average platformer offers pretty visuals, minigames, a fair lifespan and a complete lack of proper innovation. And Ape Escape 2 does this flawlessly. Now, this doesn't have to be a bad thing. If you pick up the game knowing that it'll entertain you but will never surprise you, you'll have a lot of fun. But otherwise, prepare to be disappointed.
Pros: This game was one of the PS2's greatest platformers when released. Although it's now a little dated, it retains it's unique charm and, more importantly, sense of sheer fun, years after it lit up my life. So what makes this game so likable? First, the control system. You run around with the left stick, with jumping on R1. So far, so humdrum, but the fun comes with the right stick, which uses the gadget you're holding. First of all, the system is easy to use. Gadgets ca...
Cons: First of all, the boss battles are too easy. Although, they have a nice, retro feel about them with predictable patterns and big glowing weak spots, this system becomes overfamiliar, with the final boss in particular a real letdown, especially considering how good bosses are in games like Ratchet and Clank. Also, the new gadgets are a real letdown. All the innovation behind the controls of the new gizmos - to use the magnet or the water sprayer, just point the right s...
Summary: Let me start off by saying this: I dont own Ape Escape 1. I have never played it. I havent even seen it in a store to tell you the truth. So, I can honestly review this game as if it were something brand-spankin-new. Nope, not even the least bit hyped or full of expectations. Just a plain and simple, straightforward review of the game itself. Ready? Here we go! The first thing that I noticed about this game is the way the controls are handled. They are great!
Summary: Basically everyone has the same opinion, Ape Escape was an amazingly original playstation game. They tried to repeat the magic in Ape Escape two and came off as not much of a sequel but as the same game retooled. The storyline is a real sequel type hte evil bass specter from the last game is back and is out for revenge. There where no new innovations and pretty much no significant gadgets that made the game play different. But the game feels pretty much the same.
Summary: Ape Escape 2 is fun and wacky. I can't imagine how big of imaginations the makers had. There are a few bad parts to it witch are: 1. It switches from being so easy it wasn't even funny, to so hard it wasn't even funny. 2. The views of Jimmy are terrible. I want to know which way I am going. 3. The mini games are bad except monkey soccer and the monkey fables are even stupider. Otherwise, it is a wonderful game that you must have a pretty open mind to play.
Summary: ape escape 2 was a little more better than the first one. the graphics are better and so are the monkeys. in ae2 they are a little more easier to catch. anyway what happens in ae2 at the beginging the professor tells jimmy to send these new monkey pants out but instead jimmy accindentlly sends the monkey helmets back to the monkeys. then one of the helmets gets back on specter and backs him evil again. then natalie sends him back to catch all of the monkeys.
Summary: Ape Escape 1 was one of my favorite games. It was fresh and original and far more innovative than any other platformer then and now. But after having played a good deal of Ape Escape 2, I've noticed a few things. The first, obviously being the main character switcheroo to "Jimmy". Call me crazy, but i miss Spike and his deep-voiced "hi-yahs". This new Jimmy guy, in the cinematics, sounds like Ash Ketchum from the Pokemon TV series... and I'm just not feeling it.

Summary: This game definitely lives up to the first game. I stumbled across the first ape escape and played it obsessively for hours. The graphic are very good in this version. The weapons are similiar to the previous game (there may be one or two new ones--I can't remember). The new gadgets are added slowly throughout the game and you get to practice them in a training center if you choose.
