Amplitude

Playstation Illustrated
9 August 2004
  • Excerpt: Amplitude is then next 'level' of gaming for Frequency lovers out there. The 'Freqs' - characters that act as your avatar in the game - are now 3D, and are highly customizable. At the beginning of the game, you have a good number of choices and tweaks to make the Freq of your choice, but as you progress through Amplitude 's levels, you'll gain new characters and customization items to trick out your Freq. (Believe me - there's a lot to choose from...

  • Excerpt: Rhythm Action, BeMani, music game, dancing simulator, interactive musical tool – call ‘em what you will, they aren’t going to disappear any time soon. On the contrary, the genre seems to be getting stronger and is taking over more people’s lives than anyone could ever have imagined. Amplitude , the sequel to Sony’s 2002 sleeper hit Frequency , takes you into a world of tubes, flashing lights and some very trippy dreams.

Game Over Online
15 May 2004
  • Excerpt: Attempting to create a worthy sequel to a game like last year’s rhythm-based surprise hit Frequency is no small feat, and developer Harmonix knew this going in. Aside from the obligatory improvements that people expect from sequels – like enhanced visuals and souped-up sound – Amplitude ups the ante in ways that go far beyond conventional sequel expectations, setting the player loose in an extremely stylish environment that the original game can’t hold a candle to,...

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: Online play or no, this is a title that any PS2 owner would do well to purchase. Its breadth of options for both multiplayer and solo play, combined with an inherently addictive form of gameplay make this one that will earn its purchase price back over and over again.

  • Excerpt: Sometimes the most basic games, although lacking extraordinary graphics or vast story lines, turn out to be real blockbusters. Did Tetris need a 256MB DDR graphic controller or did Pong offer thousands and thousands of lines of dialogue?

PSX Extreme

  • Excerpt: Frequency was one of those games that really snuck up on unsuspecting gamers. With all of the music gaming focus squarely set on Konami's Dance Dance Revolution line of games, the stage was set for Harmonix to surprise some people—and they did just that. Despite Frequency's extremely demanding difficulty curve on harder settings, it was easy to get hooked and keep trying, just to unlock all of the songs and see what else was in the game's eclectic collection of rock,...

  • Excerpt: It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a game. I don't mean "wow, this game is fun" excitement, I mean "hey random FedEx guy, come check out this game" excitement. The source of that excitement is one of the most finely crafted gaming experiences I've ever had the pleasure of taking part in. At its core, Amplitude is little more than an improvement or tweak on the majority of what FreQency did so well.

  • Summary: Умом я понимаю, что Endless Space не идеальна. Но вид настолько гармоничной космической стратегии все равно завораживает.
