  • Excerpt: Amplitude uses the default set up of L1, R1, and R2 for each of the left/center/right buttons. While this doesn’t seem like the most intuitive set-up (Amplitude Virgin – Left/Center/Right? Well, Square/Triangle/Circle would work better!), when the beats start coming fast and furious you’ll need all your dexterity to keep up using three fingers at once much less even attempting to keep up using a single thumb…and that isn’t even taking into account you’ll also need...

Amplitude – Special P.O.D. Edition

TotalPlayStation.com
13 November 2003
  • Excerpt: We're pretty hardcore Amplitude fans around here. I personally have managed to rope my significant other into playing and she's hopelessly addicted now (she's actually playing as I type this). This pleases me, as I genuinely feel the game offers something for nearly everyone. Of course, none of that explains why I'm reviewing the special edition single song version of Amplitude that comes bundled with P.O.D.'s new self-titled second album.

Marvelous Music Mayhem

GIN
23 June 2003
  • Excerpt: The game Frequency was cast aside by many gamers amidst the holiday buzz of November 2001. The game was praised by many reviewers, deservingly so, but was lost not unlike games such as ICO. It featured a new spin on the Dance Dance Revolution and Parappa the Rapper-style games. The easy to learn, hard to master gameplay featured many popular artists, as well as some underground techno DJ's.

Amplitude

Gamecell

  • Conclusion: It's really cool to hear how the addition of the various sound tracks effects the overall sound of a song (some definitely sound better without the vocals). The game may sound overcomplicated but it's not, and a training mode teaches you the tricks needed to amass the big scores that unlock the bonus songs. Amplitude is a visually dazzling mix of shooting, racing (well, steering anyway), rhythm action and music and there's nothing quite like it.
  • Pros: Flashy, colourful and loads of different tunes.
  • Cons: You might not like the music., You could say it's just another cleverly disguised rhythm action game.
