Hitting?

Daniel Segal "Daniel", Amazon
24 May 2004
  • Summary: The hitting interface in this game is awful. When the computer throws fastballs up in the corner or anywhere besides the target, then you can't hit it. What I do is wait for a pitch to come down the middle and swing the bat. I wish I could get my money back for this piece of trash. I mean, how fun is a game where you can't hit the ball??? Akklaim needs some help.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

Jeremy Pischke, Amazon
2 August 2002
  • Summary: This game is pretty cool until it won't let you hit ball. The graphics are good but it is not worth your money and time. Don't buy it. I could never figure out how to steal bases. Controls are confusing.

  • Summary: Recently I wrote a rather favorable review of this game, but since that time I have taken it back and replaced it with High Heat Baseball 2003, a game whose graphics are not that great but whose gameplay is hands-down the best around. As I continued to play ASBB2003, I found that there were simply too many bugs in the game to really keep me interested, and some of these downright frustrated the heck out of me. For example... 1.

it's soooo close, but...

  • Summary: i'm a long-time triple play player, they are graphically far and away the best, but pretty shallow, so i was ready for a change. it looked like asb had everything right (franchise with farm systems, challenge points to buy cards to unlock cheats/uniforms/stadiums, throwback uni's), but frustratingly they just miss on so many points. don't get me wrong, the game is fun, the pitcher/batter interface is very realistic and the game is much more intellectually challenging.

Bugs, Glitches, Poor Gameplay

Jason Hofer, Amazon
11 March 2002
  • Summary: I have been an ASB proponent since the first game on N64. I looked forward to last year, and was mildly disappointed. With a year under the belt on the PS2, I felt like this would be the year it would return to championship form. Sadly this game isn't even up to the level of the previous one. I have played through about 10 games. I say about 10 because the game froze twice during play. This is a fair sample considering I have two previous versions of the game.

More frustration than fun!

Monosylabik "jbrown87", Amazon
5 August 2002
  • Summary: All Star Baseball 2003 is what I would call a mediocre game. I chose to buy it because Newsweek magazine said it was the best. Far from it. For starters, everything you've heard about the hitting is pretty much true. Yes, it is a guessing game. Yes, the pitchers throw 80mph right by you before you can blink. But I found that that wasn't even the most frustrating thing in the game. For a game that looks so realistic, some of gameplay is not.

Has potential, but frustrating

Luke A. Grim, Amazon
17 July 2002
  • Summary: While I only give this game 2 stars, the potential is limitless! All the games anymore will let you create a player and play a season, sure...How many have cards, stadiums, players and teams to unlock?!?... Those are some of the goods....Now here's the extreme downfall....The hitting!... As soon as the pitcher releases the ball, you'd better have the cursor where it belongs. No, don't look at where you THINK it's going or where it LOOKS like it's going.

ASB 2003 falls short of a homrun.....

Toly "toly79", Amazon
7 May 2002
  • Summary: ASB 2003 is a good game but far from being great. It has too many glitches that even though you don't see them very often, can't be forgotten. Once, i went after a ball that dropped between center field and left field. I got there with my center field player and was trying to get the ball but nothing happened, i mean the ball was there but the player just didn't pick it up, the runner meanwhile was rounding the bases, then suddenly the ball appeared in the glove of my...

A very poor substitute for MLB 2003

*closet fan*, Amazon
7 May 2002
  • Summary: Yes, the word is out -- for the second straight year, 989 Sports has failed to produce an acceptable MLB game for PS2. Release of MLB 2003 has been canceled. So, if you're really adamant about playing a PS2 baseball game this year, what are your options? Unfortunately, All Star Baseball is one of them. This is an extremely frustrating game, especially for kids. It's very difficult to hit.
