Conclusion: Ace Combat 04 is a true war game with all the action commonly seen and also the emotion rarely seen in these types of games. Project Aces once again takes the flight genre in a new direction that will hopefully continue on.
Pros: Although dated, Ace Combat 04 can hold its own as (in my opinion) the best title in the best air combat series. It takes a some doing to merit this, but I don't exaggerate when I say that Shattered Skies has it all.
Cons: The main problem I see is that for players with some skill, the 18 mission campaign is over way too fast. There is however, 2 player co-op mode and score attack challenges.
Summary: In scanning over the reviews, I can't believe no one mentioned that you basically work your way up to better planes and equiptment in this game and what that really means. In my view, this is one of the best aspects of the game because, at first, you're pretty much of a sitting duck in the crappy plane and weaponry you start out with; but then when you've kicked butt to the point that you have a greater wealth of choices in aircraft capability it starts getting as if you...
Summary: It's one of my favorite PS2 games. I've been looking for good PS2 flight sim and this one is a jewel. Controls are simple and well taught in a series of tutorials. The difficulty is ramping up very gently. In the later missions different objectives and in-flight mission updates encourage you to try different planes to complete the entire mission. The planes are quite different and picking the right one could be crucial.
Don't Be Fooled By Its Price: You won't be disappointed!

Summary: I personally do not buy 'flight simulator' games because I am not simply interested in them. However, I gave Ace Combat 4 a try simply because it was cheap. Frankly I just don't like these 3D 'shooter' games; I'm a hardcore 2D shooter fan- however... Wow... this game just blew me away since from early missions to the very AWESOME last mission... I didn't expect much from this 'flight simulator'... This game literally reminded me of Ridge Racer R4 after finishing it.
Summary: I'm not going to go into much detail because the other reviews have it covered with the exception that if you're a flight sim fan, this game is a MUST HAVE. Never have I seen a console flight sim so realistic in putting the player behind the cockpit. Missions get more and more challenging as you go along; extra functions and fighters are unlocked after you beat the game, adding replay value.
Summary: I've been flying simulators on PCs for years. When I tried Ace Combat 4, I was amazed. The graphics, play, and game storyline are great. I've completed the missions several times but continue to play, just for the joy of flying. The missions vary and each includes a new component or graphic environment. I've tried several PS2 flightsims and this is clearly the best. It's a great deal for the current price. I'll be playing this for years to come.
Summary: I have had this game for a very long time, and it is still the greatest game (outside of the NBA Live series) ever made. The graphics in AC: 04 are good, but not amazing. What I like most about this game is the senerio you are put up against, being an ace pilot for the ISAF. When your armed forces regroup from the mainland, and to some islands, you are redeployed to the south, invade the Esuea continent, and crush the Euruseans back to their capitol.
Summary: AMAZING!!!!!!!!! Let's start with the storyline shall we. It's pretty amazing a kid growing up on a farm during a war witnesses a plane crash into his farm killing everyone. Then follows Yellow Squadron and has intresting adventure. The Graphics are so good they'll kill you as are the noises and radio talk during missions. You also get a selection of planes with good ratings like Air-to-Ground Air-to-Air mobility durability that kind of stuff.
Summary: The Erusians have built a weapon of mass destrution, Stonehenge. ISAF is at war because of this cannon. Stonehenge was originally built to shoot down astroids but Erusia discovered it could be used as a anti-aircraft weapon. So you, Mobius 1, must fight for the mainland. Buying fighters of speed and weapons of destruction you defend the Independent Allied Forces. Dog-fight the fearless Yellow 13. Buy F-15s and SU-37s.
