My favorite PS2 game of all time!
10 August 2013
Summary: I realize that I am writing this review well over a decade since this game was released for the PS2. However this is truly the only reason why I continue to use my old PS2 because Ace Combat 4 is the most fun and intense fighter jet video game that I have ever played. Even the follow up Ace Combat games released for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 still do not compare to Ace Combat 4. Ace Combat 4 keeps things simple. You fly, shoot, and destroy your enemies.
Summary: This was my first and favorite game in the Ace combat games. Excellent mission variety, and good storyline. I like the fact that you get your briefing, head out, listen in on your wingmen if you want, and strike your targets. If you run out of ordnance (missiles, bombs, and gun ammo), you can fly back to your base or carrier to reload and have your bird repaired. My only gripe about this game is it's a bit difficult to save up funds to buy new planes.
Summary: I love Ace Combat 04. Ace Combat 04 is about flying a plane and shooting down enemy planes, and neutralizing targets, and landing, like on carrier decks, and landing on base runways. The good stuff with this simulator is it's realistic and has an engaging story line and has almost no bad stuff except for saying swears, but that is what you hear over the radio. My favorite part of Ace Combat '04 is it's exiting when I accomplish hard missions.
Summary: The Graphics for the story-line is 'Poor'. The Arial Graphics are Good-to-Very Good. Since I have already played 'Ace Combat 5', I found this game 'Ace Combat 4', to be a GOOD study or Stepping-Stone for A.C.5. I liked this game, it's O.K. Namco is a great name in Air Battles, as far as I'm concerned!
Summary: I remember playing the original Ace Combat on the PlayStation. Ace Combat Four is definitely a great addition to the series. The next games on the PS2 are Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, and Ace Combat 0: The Belkan War. Ace Combat 4 is a solidly entertaining game, following the liberation of the fictional ("parallel universe") country of USEA against an onslaught from Erusia.
Summary: I have followed this game since the first version. The storyline works very well with this game. Ace Combat 4 has the most realistic effects and landscapes. I like the landings on the aircraft carrier better than a runway for refueling and rearmings. The final contest takes a while to figure out, but it's well worth it. It's worth every star it receives.
Conclusion: Ace Combat 04 is a true war game with all the action commonly seen and also the emotion rarely seen in these types of games. Project Aces once again takes the flight genre in a new direction that will hopefully continue on.
Pros: Although dated, Ace Combat 04 can hold its own as (in my opinion) the best title in the best air combat series. It takes a some doing to merit this, but I don't exaggerate when I say that Shattered Skies has it all. The greatest aspect of the Ace Combat series is its gameplay, which can range from easy enough for new players to quickly master, to challenging enough to keep veterans coming back. Although unrealistic in regards to the amount of weapons you can carry and...
Cons: The main problem I see is that for players with some skill, the 18 mission campaign is over way too fast. There is however, 2 player co-op mode and score attack challenges. Also, the effects of damage are not well represented. The explosions look especially choppy. But for a game of this age, you can't really complain.
