  • Excerpt: While the main focus of the game is playing in the World Cup, there are several other noteworthy modes. You can play an exhibition, play online, and try to complete a number of pre-set scenarios such as jumping into a game and coming from behind, holding a lead, or winning a shoot-out. If you're looking for a lengthy challenge, you can take any of the 125 teams in the game and guide them through the qualifying stages of the World Cup, as well.

2006 FIFA World Cup

  • Conclusion: The World Cup format alone could have set 2006 FIFA World Cup apart from FIFA 06. Instead EA tweaked the gameplay and came away with yet another winner. Guiding any of 127 countries through qualification gives the game much needed depth.

2006 FIFA World Cup Review

VideoGamer.com
22 May 2006
  • Excerpt: It's hard not to get excited about the World Cup. While qualification has been a long and drawn out process, if your national team has made it to the finals you'll have some belief that the lads can go all the way. Players who you've despised all season while playing for rival club teams can suddenly become heroes and the work rate of entire nations falters as big games kick-off during work hours.

  • Excerpt: Every four years when the World Cup of soccer is played, EA Sports comes out with a game dedicated to the big tournament. Though game controls and graphics are identical to its yearly released FIFA soccer game, there are still a few reasons to play 2006 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA World Cup: Germany 2006

  • Conclusion: As you progress through the World Cup, you'll inevitably earn points by fulfilling some of the 200-plus objectives that the game tracks for your profile. These objectives include beating certain teams, winning by a certain number of goals, scoring at different stages of matches, winning streaks, and lots more.
  • Pros: Excellent soundtrack and commentary, Fast-paced gameplay, Great player animations and TV-style presentation.
  • Cons: Wildly inconsistent frame rate, Poor goalkeepers.

2006 FIFA World Cup PS2 Review

DarkZero
21 May 2006
  • Conclusion: This is the best FIFA title yet, no doubt about it. It flows better and plays better than the previous incarnations. However, if you already own FIFA 2006, then think twice before spending your cash on a slightly updated version of the same game, even if it does have all the World Cup bells and whistles. I have absolutely no doubt that this will sit atop the multi-format charts for weeks on end, no matter what anyone says in a review.
