Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz – Review (Vita)
7 September 2013
Excerpt: One of the more iconic Sega franchises that is not named Sonic makes its long await return to the handheld consoles with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz. 11 years since it was originally released, Super Monkey Ball has been unfortunate for not being able to recapture the magic that was contained in the first game over the course of its existence but instead has been plagued by bad luck.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz PlayStation Vita Review

Excerpt: Sometimes the simplest ideas are some of the best. Taking a cast of cartoon monkeys and placing them inside balls to roll around the levels is one of these simple but well executed ideas. The original GameCube game, which was released back in 2001, is certainly a game that is fondly remembered by many. Having already appeared on many formats over the years, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is the first game in the series to appear on Sony’s Vita handheld.
Summary: Thankfully " Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz " is available at a budget price straight away on the Vita. Even despite the system’s relative lack of games, there’s not enough here to justify a full price. The amount of content somehow seems quite slim (despite rivalling the original full price games), and there’s a worrying lack of ideas. The game’s a throwback, but yet fails to capture much of the magic of the original, especially in the jaded party games.
Conclusion: Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz has a little something for all ages. The difficulty levels mean younger players can have some fun playing the main game, but expect even the first few worlds in normal difficulty to provide a challenge for them. The Party Games though are a different kettle of fish and will probably provide more entertainment for them.
Pros: Lots of worlds to complete. Graphically very good. Some excellent mini-games.
Cons: Not being able to move the camera whilst moving. Gyroscope as a control in the main game is useless.
Excerpt: After the brilliance of Super Monkey Ball and its fantastic sequel, it seems Sega cannot hit the right note with the series any more, especially on the handheld, where the franchise has yet to supply a good enough game worthy of the Super Monkey Ball label. The last release, which was on the 3DS, was an extremely dumbed-down version, with challenging levels completely out of the equation because of the inclusion of safety barriers.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz, per rilanciare la serie
3 April 2013
