Excerpt: The Vita is in a odd spot of its lifespan. It’s relatively new and has a few major games available, but the game library isn’t as large as it could and should be. This means Vita owners are left searching for games where ever possible Fortunately, Beatshapers Limited decided to port its PS3 game StarDrone over as StarDrone Extreme .
Pros: Level objectives switch so you aren’t doing the same thing every level and there are 70 levels. The bright visuals that are easy to see. Touch screen controls work well, not to mention you can switch between the front and back touchscreen and touchpad for controls. You can skip levels. There are also online leaderboards, which are shared with the PS3 version.
Cons: Optional standard controls would have been handy as the touch screen controls can make it hard to see what you’re doing. The music is also rather bland. There are some minor loading issues. I’d sometimes get error codes when trying to play offline.
Conclusion: It doesn't quite live up to its bigger cousin, mainly due to some difficulty issues and a control scheme that doesn't feel quite as natural. It's still a great game to pay on the go though, and there isn't anything else quite like it.
Excerpt: I find it difficult to describe exactly what type of game Stardrone Extreme is. It has elements of platformers, sidescrolling shooters, and even puzzle games, yet all of these fail to accurately describe it. I must admit, though, this is a conundrum I realized only after I finished the game because I was having too much fun while playing to dwell on the subject. Whatever its genre, Stardrone Extreme is a fun and affordable downloadable game for the PlayStation Vita.
Conclusion: StarDrone Extreme is a casual touch game on the PS Vita. Basically, it’s Angry Birds meets pinball. The camera follows a drone in zero gravity as it’s hurled through space. You can affix the drone to “Beacons” which are the equivalent of the sling shot in the Angry Birds series but they act more like a trebuchet.
