ModNation Racers: Roadtrip review
24 June 2012
Excerpt: ModNation Racers: Roadtrip is really hung up on appearances. “Customize everything!” it cries. Choose a custom vehicle shell! Slap a sticker on your buggy! Dress up your little “Mod” person as a fursuiting cowboy! This is all you! You are expressing yourself and being creative! Isn’t that rad?
Pros: Powerful but intuitive track editor, Lots of custom parts to play with, Decent number of pre-made tracks
Cons: Racing feels lifeless and dull, Long load times and low framerates, No online multi, so why customize?
Summary: ModNation Racers is very much an "odd one out" when it comes to Sony exclusives. It has the "build anything" mantra of LittleBigPlanet but remains tied to a single genre of game -- a genre that LittleBigPlanet itself is planning to conquer .
Excerpt: is far from a great game, but it's also far from a bad game. It's definitely something in between, and depending on what you are looking for from the game, you will either find yourself incredibly pleased or disappointed with the title.
Conclusion: ModNation Racers: Road Trip has a ton of content, but quantity doesn't beget quality. Obviously rushed out the door for launch, it captures little of what made the console release so charming. Steer clear, there are far better racers on the market.
