Excerpt: I've been noticing a pattern with Squaresoft's games of late. Aside from the fact that their localizations are greatly improving, I've found their plots to be increasingly unpredictable. It isn't that their narrative information is at all surprisingly new or original, but in terms of general focus and execution, they appear to be more confident and understated.
Excerpt: Vagrant Story is the kind of game the dungeon crawling AD&D fanatics have been craving for. With an advanced fighting system that allows you to target certain body parts and chain attacks by timing your button pushes, you'll start on probably the most complex and involving game to come in for the PlayStation yet.
Pros: Extremely deep weapon and armor system, Well-developed battle system, Excellent translation, Great story
Excerpt: You will fall in deep love with the characters and the story that binds them. Truly, you will. It goes like this: the Duke's son has been kidnapped during a siege on his manor, so his council dispatches two agents to retrieve him. One Ashley Right and one Callo Merlose. As our heroes enter Leá Monde, however, Agent Merlose is immediately kidnapped leaving the protagonist alone.
Excerpt: The graphics in Vagrant Story are absolutely breathtaking. Every character model is gorgeous, pushing the limits of the aging PlayStation, and then some. The mouths move, the muscles seem to flex, and every square inch is textured with care. No confusing duplicate character in this game, mind you. Even the bit enemies are well-detailed, with the bat looking appropriately batty, and the wolf looking appropriately lupine.
Excerpt: Squaresoft has impressed Playstation gamers many times in the past. The breathtaking Final Fantasyís , Xenogears and many others have created fanboys who worship Squaresoftís skill in creating complex stories and breathtaking worlds. Unfortunately, gameplay has always taken a backseat to the epic stories and dazzling graphics. Vagrant Story is more gameplay oriented than the usual Squaresoft games, but does that necessarily make it better?
Excerpt: One of Square's most anticipated new adventures has finally arrived. Vagrant Story is Square/EA's newest Action/RPG game. The game was released a few months ago in Japan and it received nothing but perfect and near perfect reviews. Sadly though the title didn't sell very well, Vagrant Story had everything in it including an awesome story, good visuals, a nice soundtrack and everything a game needed. But due to the lack of hype the game got, it was a poor seller.
