Italian Job Spins Out

GIN

  • Excerpt: The Italian Job as a movie wasn't anything particularly amazing, but it was still a fun ride. The writing was clever and occasionally humorous, the acting was superb, and the car chases and heists provided ample adrenaline rush for your movie going dollar. Now though we have a game based on that movie, which seems to have been developed for no other purpose than to remind us how mediocre most licensed games are..

The Italian Job

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: In the world of the PSOne, The Italian Job 's graphics probably fair halfway decent, but are still pretty ugly. Unfortunately, the characters in the game are extremely pixilated. The vehicles and cities themselves have a good balance of graphical power and game performance, but there are a lot of noticeable pop-ups when driving through the cityscape. Playing The Italian Job on the PS2 doesn't seem to add anything to the game graphics-wise either.

Off the Job

GIN

  • Excerpt: Charlie Croker, fresh out of a stint in the big house, already has hatched a plan to swindle 4,000,000 pounds out from under the Italian mafia and the Turin police. This is The Italian Job, a driving game from Rockstar Games, the same people who brought you the Grand Theft Auto series. The game is based on the movie The Italian Job, released 1969, starring Michael Caine and (of all people) Benny Hill.

  • Excerpt: Rockstar brings us another in their series of $9.99 "Got Game" titles. The Italian Job is probably be best of these we've played since Darkstone, which means it's worth a spin if you're still stuck on the PS1. Following the plot of an old British crime caper flick, it's got some good story and decent gameplay. Click.
  • Pros: ups: Ten bucks; great sense of humor and sticks to a great film; remarkably enjoyable.
  • Cons: downs: Dated graphics; control takes some getting used to.
