Street Sk8er

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: The graphics for Street Sk8er are pretty good and get the job done, but aren’t really amazing. I noticed a bit of poly break-up, but on the other hand, the frame-rate is high. There are several song tracks to jam to by such bands as I Against I, Gas Huffer, and Less Than Jake. I have stated many times in the past that I like “real” music being used in video games instead of muzak, midi files, or no-name garage bands.

  • Conclusion: Off the mark. That's how I'd best describe Street Sk8er. It's doubtful that it will appeal to hardcore skaters because of the severely limited trick mechanics, and yet skateboarding probably doesn't have a wide enough appeal to bring in the masses. This isn't a bad game, but it feels less like a representation of a sport, and more like a formula that needs to be solved in order to move on.
