Summary: This game brought the Metal Gear franchise to a new level, not to mention third person shooters in general. Metal Gear Solid features a cool storyline, good graphics (for the time), good music, lots of bosses, and dual endings. Anybody that likes third person shooters knows that Solid Snake is the coolest.
Metal Gear Solid - The original (and best) stealth-em-up!
12 February 2014
Excerpt: MGS Playstation 1 - full 2 disc edition Metal Gear Solid, released 1998 on Playstation console. 1 player 2 discs - though one is mostly 'VR' training missions Rated 15 (European version) A recent retro game review named this the most important game released on the playstation console. While I don't quite share that sentiment, there is simply no question that this spawned every 'Stealth-em-up' released since.
Pros: This is the original 'Stealth' game and an absolute classic .
Excerpt: *I played Metal Gear Solid on PS Vita, downloaded from the Playstation Store. It's exactly the same as the original, but some controls are mapped to the touchpad with the absence of R2 and L2 buttons.* The Metal Gear series is so long and complicated that even the name confuses people.
Pros: Interesting story; robust stealth system; rather funny writing; superb music and voice acting .
Excerpt: I have to admit, this game still gets played today by my children. At the time of release I had never her of this Snake character. Who was he? Well let me tell you, since this game came out.... No one can ask that question. I was blissfully unaware of the previous Snake games prior to this on other platforms. However, once I put this game on, it really showed the full power of the once great PS1.
Pros: Its got everything . One of the top 10 games of all time
Excerpt: I don't why they don't make games like this anymore. I'm aware of, and have played, all the sequels to Metal Gear Solid but for the post part have been disappointed. What this game had was a unique balance between gameplay and storytelling that has not been matched elsewhere. For those not familiar with the series i shall lay down the basic premise.
Pros: A great combination of difficult mysteries and great combat action !
Cons: Maybe too much story and too little gameplay for some .
Excerpt: I’m always dubious when people call a game a classic but I think for once they’ve got it right. To begin with I can’t say MGS sucked me in. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t one of those games you could be bothered playing when you weren’t (if that makes any sense?). However after the first boss fight, that’s where it all began to change.
Excerpt: The controls in Metal Gear Solid can be tricky to get to grips with. It can be easy to accidentally lean against a wall when aiming to run past it (or vice versa). The analog controller comes recommended, but only for precision of direction - for a stealth game it's perhaps surprising that Snake runs regardless of how far the stick is pushed.
Excerpt: Small heading The greatest game of its time? As one of the most hyped games of the 32 Bit area, Metal gear solid is remembered by many as one of the classic, most important games from that era, spoken in the same breath as games such as Mario 64, Zelda OoT, and FF7. Looking back years later, how does this game stand up? As you boot the game up, you get a clear indication of what's to come.
Pros: Terrific story, great cut scenes . good graphics for its era . Fun gameplay .
Cons: A little short, seems aged . Very movie like .
Excerpt: In my opinion this is the game that best defined the Playstation. Metal Gear Solid is Hideo Kojima's finest masterpeice, set in the world of tactical espionage against the threat of global terrorism. This game will exercise patience and your ability to scope out the whole level before mapping out your route. Naturally, this game will take up hours of play, but believe me every second is worth your time.
Pros: Engrossing gameplay with no end of action and twists
Cons: Fps lovers will find it hard to not go gung ho
Excerpt: Every so often a game will appear carrying months (and occasionally years) of hype and anticipation on it's shoulders. Some deliver the goods, and become regarded as classics (Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill), whilst others stumble over their reputations whilst in development (Soul Reaver, Driver 2 and Tomb Raider 3 among countless others) and never quite deliver what they promise.
Pros: Super graphics, gripping plot, fantastic environments, exciting soundtrack, mostly - great dialogue
