Final Fantasy IX

Playstation Illustrated

  • Excerpt: Just as Final Fantasy VIII pushed the limits of the PlayStation's power, Final Fantasy IX edges it out just that little bit farther. There are very few screens in the game that don't have something moving in the background, which is done in the same 3D-on-2D that we've had since Final Fantasy VII . The design of the world is also jaw-dropping, from towering tree-cities to dank catacombs, and everything in between.

  • Excerpt: One of my friends described Final Fantasy IX as macaroni and cheese. It tastes good and you like it, but it's not one of the more exciting or exotic flavors. Hence the game is not as often talked about or heavily debated as Final Fantasy VII or VIII. I have to say, she was absolutely right about that (along with a great many other things about life.) In fact, her assessment of Final Fantasy IX is why I now describe good quality throwback RPGs as "comfort food" RPGs.

  • Excerpt: Entering hand in hand with the “cuter” super deformed look is a story line that is a little more lighthearted than the previous Playstation Final Fantasy efforts. If the other Final Fantasy titles were “Interactive Movies” then FF IX is an “Interactive Action/Comedy.” Sidekicks, romance, and thrilling sub-plots are constantly upstaging one another in this exhilarating and entertaining adventure.

Final Fantasy IX Keeps the Edge

GIN

  • Excerpt: The final, Final Fantasy on Playstation is a wonderful reminder of everything that Squareoholics hold dear about the seminal RPG series. Littered with references to previous installments, a gameplay system reminiscent of former FF games and an overall feeling of nostalgia, FF IX is a wonderful trip down memory lane in what will probably be a very different series from here on. While the game, certainly isn't perfect, it is a tremendous addition to the FF ranks.

  • Excerpt: I believe Shakespeare said it best when he wrote the famed quote "what's in a name". To this day on I still would take that quote and put it next to a franchise like Nike, Coca-Cola, McDonalds, etc. So where am I going with this you say? Okay, take the quote and place it next to the name Final Fantasy, "what's in a name" and Final Fantasy stick to each other like crazy glue, why? Because FF is the perfect example to emphasize a quote like that.

Final Fantasy IX

Outerspace
8 August 2004
Kupo!
  • Pros: Cenários lindos, Filmes de computação gráfica de cair o queixo;, Jogabilidade, sons e músicas muito boas, como é de praxe da série;, Ênfase para utilização de magias, dinheiro e itens de recuperação de status, o que é pouco comum na atualidade;, A extrema diversão garante que você ficará por dias “agarrado” com o jogo;, Enredo magnífico e personagens pra lá de carismáticos;
  • Cons: Batalhas aleatórias podem irritar os mais impacientes;, Faltou inovação.
