Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
17 May 2014
Conclusion: Ultimately Final Fantasy XIV is a worthy replacement for the failures of the original game. Its world is gorgeous and jam-packed with enough content to keep players going for months and years to come. The variety of activities and missions helps break the monotony that often plagues MMOs and the robust class system adds some neat wrinkles to the traditional standards.
Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn PS4 Review
15 May 2014
Excerpt: Final Fantasy XIV was widely considered as a mess on its initial release back in 2010, to the point that Square Enix themselves publicly apologized and began a quest to rebuild the game from the ground up. Upon its release on PC and PS3 last year Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was widely praised by those that played it and now it has made its way to PS4.
Summary: More than most games, an MMO is truly the sum of all its many parts. This world and all its structures, systems and suites of activities are to be a players home for far longer than any other video game title. They are life suckers, destined - if good enough - to allow upwards of years of real time playing. So every facet of a title such as Final Fantasy XIV needs to be tight and fun.
Excerpt: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has finally arrived for the next generation of PlayStation gaming. While the original release of the game was a major bust for developer and publisher Square Enix, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn re-released last year for PlayStation 3 and PC and has been a huge success for the company so far.
Conclusion: There’s little about Final Fantasy XIV that renovates the MMO’s basic form, but it tackles that addictive paradigm with zeal and emerges with an engrossing world and fluid combat system all its own. The PS4 version looks and plays great, not to mention the new control and play options only available on the platform. It all adds up to make this the most functional version of the game yet, itself one of the most exciting and polished MMOs around.
Summary: A Realm Reborn is everything Square Enix wanted FFXIV to be and more, with a unique class system that gives players a freedom that’s not found in many MMORPGs today. It’s fun, it’s pretty, and Square Enix is 100% forgiven.
Summary: Square Enix’s latest online offering for its legendary role-playing franchise is.... well, odd. It’s riddled with frustrations, from the excruciatingly long time it takes between starting a new game and actually being able to play anything, to the general lack of spoken dialogue, making it seem unsophisticated compared to almost every other MMO on the market.
Conclusion: A Realm Reborn was already a great game when it launched, though it admittedly ran out of steam after a few months. Thanks to a bunch of content upgrades and a new level of sheen afforded by the PS4 hardware however, the game is easily one of the best on the market right now.
Review: Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn is the finest MMO on console
25 April 2014
Summary: A quick history lesson. In the beginning, there was Final Fantasy XIV, an MMO of such insultingly poor quality that its players revolted and demanded more. Aside from the terrible controls and distinctly inferior storytelling, there were so many major bugs that the whole thing bordered on unplayable.
Pros: Enormous depth and variety of content, Areas look beautiful and feel unique, Overall intuitive controls
Cons: Some quests lack intrigue., Tutorials don't always include finer details
