A Real Lack Of Riches
30 May 2013
Conclusion: One has to wonder about the wisdom of leaving behind the super-budget market with Zombie Tycoon 2 . There isn't quite enough substance to justify even a meager $9.99 price point. Fun but ultimately short-lived.
Conclusion: If you want a strategy game with zombies, this is probably your best option. Be warned that you may get frustrated with the difficulty and tired with the tedious nature of the stages. It is nice to be able to easily carry your game from the PS3 to the Vita and vice versa. For $10, you can get some value out of it, but I would recommend snagging it for free if you're a Plus subscriber.
Conclusion: Zombie Tycoon 2: Brainhov's Revenge makes a good first impression with its clever controls, but ultimately abandons RTS fans by failing to create any real depth or options. Campaign maps and mission designs work directly against the small unit count and slow movement, and the one mode that could've worked with what little potential it has left – the multiplayer – proves too weak to shoulder the dead weight.
Pros: Well thought-out controls, Surprising number of units
Cons: Switching units is cumbersome, Scattershot mission design, Multiplayer is painfully limited
Excerpt: We so often take up arms against our zombie brothers that we never stop to wonder about the struggles they go through while trying to exterminate humanity. Enter mad scientist Orville Tycoon and his band of zombie underlings. Tycoon is on a rampage to take down his illustrious former mentor Dr. Brainhov and his band of feral zombies to reign as supreme overlord of the zombie race and put an end to pesky humanity in the process.
Zombie Tycoon 2: Brainhov's Revenge Review - a strategy hybrid with multiplayer thrills and single-player chills
30 April 2013
Summary: A refreshingly simple hybrid of RTS depth and MOBA thrills, Zombie Tycoon 2 shines in multiplayer despite limited options. Just don't bother with its tedious, punishing single-player campaign.
Pros: RTS meets MOBA with console simplicity, Charmingly zany art direction, Friends can learn and be competitive quickly
Cons: Obnoxious late-game difficulty, Repetitive music, framerate trouble on PS Vita, Very few multiplayer options
PAX East 2013: Zombie Tycoon 2 and why you should love the Vita
31 March 2013
Excerpt: The original Zombie Tycoon was a Playstation Mini that arrived to a somewhat tepid reception. But much like the portable consoles Zombie Tycoon calls home, developer Frima Studio isn’t planning to send the franchise to an early grave. Zombie Tycoon 2 is a more ambitious sequel coming to Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita with cross-buy and cross-play.
Excerpt: Just when you thought it was safe to remove the boards from your windows and doors, here comes Zombie Tycoon 2: Brainhov’s Revenge . This followup to the original 2009 PSP title designed by Frima studios puts you in control of a vicious zombie horde that will demolish anything on your path to total world domination.
Pros: Excellent controls, Charming presentation, Good unit variety, Simple and fun multiplayer setup
Cons: Short and repetitive single player mode, Occasional gameplay glitches, Linear gameplay requiring trial and error
