Zack Zero

Destructoid
2 September 2013
  • Summary: If the alliterative title Zack Zero makes you think of a bad '90s edutainment cartoon (whose mere existence is made even more egregious by the staggering amount of entirely JAWESOME '90s cartoons), then you actually already have some idea of what to expect. What purports to be a callback to retro, side-scrolling, 2D gameplay ends up being a cheap imitation of the style -- a sometimes broken imitation at that -- that was gussied up and hurriedly trotted out.

Zack Zero

Game Over Online
1 September 2012
  • Excerpt: Zack Zero came out of nowhere on PSN and provides some platforming thrills, but unfortunately, provides far more frustration. It’s rather unfortunate too, since the idea of having a game centered around a character with a super-powered suit is a good one. You start off having access to a fully-powered suit that alternates between his default powers and three elemental ones, basically turning him into a version of the Thing, the Human Torch, and Iceman before having most...

Zack Zero

Defunct Games
19 April 2012
  • Summary: Zack Zero stumbles through his adventure to save his beautiful girlfriend. Unfortunately, the game's puzzles are too simple and the story is never compelling. On the other hand, the graphics are incredible and there's a lot of variety to the stage backgrounds. Fans of 16-bit platformers will get a kick out of some of the concepts, but you're better off finding a Sega Genesis on eBay! Tweet This product was submitted by the publisher for review.

  • Summary: Good ol' retro-style platformer with the highlights coming through level design and array of wacky enemy-types.
  • Pros: Level design encourages exploration and takes advantage of skill-set well, Loving the weird and wonderful enemies, Looks and sounds great
  • Cons: Combat lacks challenge, Pop-ups reminding you of how badly you are doing compared to others

Review: Zack Zero (Sony Playstation 3)

Diehard GameFAN
28 March 2012
  • Summary: As a fan of 2D platform games, Zack Zero commits pretty much every pet peeve I have of the genre. There are those that it might not bother as much, however personally I did not enjoy my time with the game, and with a $13 entry fee I can think of numerous cheaper platform games I would recommend before ever purchasing the sloppy mess that is Zack Zero .

Zack Really is a Zero

GameCritics.com
1 March 2012
  • Conclusion: The ending—the only way it could be worse is if the narrator said "it was all a dream...
  • Pros: Some of the quasi-3D graphical effects are interesting.
  • Cons: Repeatedly plummeting to my death because the controls only work some of the time.

Zack Zero

Thunderbolt Games
9 February 2012
  • Excerpt: There is no cliche in gaming more widely used than the ‘kidnapped girlfriend’. It’s one of the most archaic plot devices used in videogames, something the platforming genre has mostly grown out of. So it’s no surprise that Zack Zero uses this trope unabashedly to set up its razor-thin narrative, just one of the many things that goes wrong in this 2.5D platformer.

Zack Zero (PS3) - Review

VGChartz
3 February 2012
  • Excerpt: Usually when a game comes in under the radar it's a bad omen. Zack Zero was so under the radar I didn't even know it existed until after it released.  Trailers for the game show off a Ratchet and Clank aesthetic, but with a far less interesting protagonist.  So is Zack Zero the poor product its stealthy release seems to hint at, or a pleasant surprise in a slow month of gaming?

Zack Zero Review (PlayStation Network)

GameZone
1 February 2012
  • Excerpt: It’s so hard to create a good platforming game these days, just because of the legacy that other classics have lived up to.  Think about it -- has anyone really made a game as good as the original Mega Man series (9 and 10 not withstanding, obviously)?  Or for that matter, a 2D platformer that was in the same league as Mario.  These newbies keep on trying, but they’re missing that certain something to make them remarkable.

Zack Zero Review

1 February 2012
  • Excerpt: I’m sure many people have heard of Buck Rogers. He’s basically a futuristic space explorer and hero. Well, imagine if Rogers obtained a special suit that allowed him to harness the power...
  • Pros: + Nice visuals, + Combo system in combat, + Friend and global leader boards, + Awesome powers, + Great checkpoint system
  • Cons: Platforming issues, Combat difficulty, Cut scenes and voice acting are off
