Smackdown vs. Raw 2009

Hardcore Gamer

  • Summary: Remember back in the glory days of your youth when you and a few friends would recklessly re-enact moves you saw in the WWF ring that Saturday morning? That’s right, it was WWF back then.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009

Video Game Generation
24 April 2009
  • Summary: Smackdown v. Raw 2009 is actually pretty fun. I haven’t picked up a wrestling title in years, yet this one managed to sneak its way into heavy gaming rotation. The Road to Wrestlemania mode is great, although I wish they had more storylines to play through. Career Mode is boring and feels wasted.
  • Pros: Fun multiplayer, Good variety of matches, Road to Wrestlemania mode
  • Cons: No old-timers, Control scheme isn't explained well and turns into button mashing, Career Mode is boring and bland, especially when compared to the Road to Wrestlemania mode

  • Summary: In the WWE, it's not uncommon for seemingly vanquished superstars to return at random, handing out fresh beatdowns and earning back their former glory. After a disappointing showing last year, THQ's long-running SmackDown vs.
  • Pros: Impressive array of different moves, Great-looking superstars and arenas, Robust creation tools, including new create-a-finisher, Solid single-player modes, Lots of different match types
  • Cons: Weak sound effects lessen the impact, Lag hampers online matches, Characters maneuver somewhat clumsily, Occasional clipping and animation issues

WWE SmackDown! VS. RAW 2009

GameTrailers
21 November 2008
  • Excerpt: THQ’s Smackdown series has been laying it down ever since the days of Blasto, but lately the franchise has gone through some hard knocks. Uninspired yearly releases glittered with marginal improvements haven’t exactly been kind to the brand, and neither has the engine, which has aged about as well...

  • Excerpt: The WWE SmackDown franchise has become a staple for THQ ever since they've gained the WWE license from the, now defunct, Acclaim. From the start, the series has been a smash hit and a financial success for THQ.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 (PS3)

Crispy Gamer

  • Excerpt: Wrestling wasn't always SmackDown vs. Raw. In fact, it's been a sport since the 9th century B.C., since the mid-Iron Age, when the massive, 74,000-verse "Mahabharata" was written in India.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 Review

VideoGamer.com
8 November 2008
  • Excerpt: Earlier in the year a fellow video game journalist remarked to me that the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw series was its own genre. It's not a fighting game series, like Street Fighter or Tekken, and it's not a sports game series, like FIFA or PES.
