WWE 12 review

GamesRadar
25 June 2012
  • Excerpt: The SmackDown series remained the dominant force in pro wrestling gaming for over a decade. While challengers like TNA and Lucha Libre tried, only one thing could dethrone SD: the game makers themselves. This year publisher THQ dumped the brand to replace it with WWE 12. However, even with the new name and image, things aren't quite as different as some might hope, but we aren't that bothered by it.
  • Pros: Fast paced combat, Gigantic selection of off and online modes, Great roster with many classic superstars
  • Cons: Not the new experience the title implies, Matches with more than two guys can be hectic, So many customization options can be daunting

Game Over Online
18 January 2012
  • Excerpt: WWE ‘12 follows up on last year’s Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 entry by adding some new features that genuinely improve the gameplay, along with control changes that hurt in some ways, and a massive downgrade in last year’s debuting features that made it the biggest pure leap in quality for the series in a long time. Object interaction is very spotty, and a slew of glitches and other little problems have been added.

VideoGamer.com
4 January 2012
  • Excerpt: "Bigger. Badder. Better." So proclaims the text stamped on the back of the box for this year's WWE instalment from Yukes and THQ. It's a catchy enough tagline, designed no doubt to promote the game's merits in the same way the WWE would draw attention to, say, one of its new superstars or a pay-per-view event.

Review: WWE '12 (Sony PS3)

Diehard GameFAN
2 January 2012
  • Summary: WWE ’12 isn’t even close to being the worst wrestling game ever made but it IS a sloppy bug ridden game mess. Road to Wrestlemania is the worst it’s ever been, but WWE Universe is slightly improved from last year. There are a ton of bugs this year that range from amusing to annoying but there is still fun to be had if you want the same basic experience you had last year with even stupider A.I. in your opponents.

WWE '12 (X360) - Review

VGChartz
1 December 2011
  • Excerpt: On the table in-front of me are two relics of my not-too-distant youth, both of them mugs. The one to the left is for the Junior Foxes, the youth wing of my football club, Leicester City. To the right, half-full of lukewarm coffee (decaff – caffeine makes me shake like Big Show near a salad), a larger mug is adorned with the heroes of my childhood; The Rock gurns at Kane, Stone Cold Steve Austin stares at the viewer whilst Mick Foley...

  • Excerpt: "Faster, simpler, smoother" isn’t the tagline for a new razor, but rather the mantra of THQ’s revamped WWE 12, which introduces a new control scheme and an aggressive AI to go along with a ginormous amount of customization features and match types. THQ and developer Yuke’s latest wrestling game feels faster than its predecessors, but simple and smooth? Not exactly.

  • Summary: This is (video game) wrestling at its finest, and that's the bottom line.
  • Pros: Phenomenal presentation makes instances in the game feel like they were ripped straight from the television; unmatched replay value with in-game, online and downloadable content; predator technology enhances AI providing more realistic and engaging gameplay; control scheme tweaked slightly for quicker pickup-and-play.
  • Cons: Counter system remains problematic and inconsistent; still the occasional clipping and textural issues; commentary is repetitive; interactive tutorial from last year suspiciously removed.

Strategy Informer
23 November 2011
  • Conclusion: It's an exciting time for WWE fans. THQ's attempts may have fallen slightly short this year, but there's plenty of potential in a title that looks towards the future. Finally significant progress has been put into place, as the game's backbone is starting to feel sturdy enough to carry the weight of expectation. Universe mode continues to have the most appeal, and with the improved in-ring dramatics, it's more enticing than last year.
