Voltron: Defender of the Universe
2 September 2013
Summary: Nostalgia is a funny thing. Sometimes, what we remember fondly from our youth turns out to not be as enjoyable as we get older. It can cloud our perceptions, and we hope that new things based on cherished memories will hold true to those old feelings, and possibly even expand upon them, validating our love for that thing gone by. Voltron: Defender of the Universe does nothing to help our nostalgia.
Conclusion: one of those old-school cartoons has found its way into videogame form: the new budget-priced PSN downloadable Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which revels completely in its ’80s roots. The game uses footage from the original cartoon to weave a loosely tied together story. But wow, is it really crappy animation.
Excerpt: There’s nothing like looking back at 80’s cartoons. Today’s cartoon scene simply can’t keep up, as the old days were all about crazy, giant-sized robots and warriors battling against Cobra and such. Granted, a lot of companies have tried to cash in (cough cough Michael Bay) on said franchises, but only a certain few approach them with a certain sense of devotion.
Excerpt: Voltron: Defender of the Universe is an action-adventure game for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network. The game’s main selling feature is the fact that it is based off the old Voltron TV series from the 80’s and it’s low price of ten dollars. However, is the game worth even the low price of ten dollars? Well that all depends on how hardcore a Voltron fan you are.
