Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review (PS3)
9 July 2013
Conclusion: As a sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves does everything it’s supposed to: build on some great gameplay and story ideas in the original while making everything generally better. Uncharted 2 presents one of the most generally entertaining games exclusive to PS3. Everything that worked in Uncharted is still here; building on the smooth and badass treasure hunter angle that Indiana Jones perfected, Uncharted 2 is one of the most cinematic games I’ve ever played without having...
Pros: Amazing visuals from the moment the game begins, Good third person shooting system that is more GTA than Gears of War, Action sequences that are incredibly exciting, who doesn’t want to jump between exploding jeeps?, Multiplayer that doesn’t seem tacked on, building on some typical gameplay modes to push it through, Amazing visuals from the moment the game begins, Good third person shooting system that is more GTA than Gears of War, Action sequences that are incredibl...
Cons: Initial loads of the game can take a while, but it's just more encouraging to play the whole thing, You have to unlock the hardest difficulty, just let me at it already, It has forced me to buy Uncharted 3 no matter what, Initial loads of the game can take a while, but it's just more encouraging to play the whole thing, You have to unlock the hardest difficulty, just let me at it already, It has forced me to buy Uncharted 3 no matter what
Excerpt: Since we briefly played Uncharted 2 at Gamescom in Cologne recently and were part of the multiplayer Beta, we expected it to be pretty good, but shittin’ crikey, not this good. Sony has searched long and hard for their killer-app - a sole reason to part with your cash - but have come up short. Killzone 2 had good-looks but offered very little in terms of originality. LittleBigPlanet was mega-fun but too niche for many.
Pros: Voice acting and scripting are of an award winning standard, The action just keeps on coming, Attention to detail
Cons: Some jump and grab sections can be a bit tricky, There are enemy types that are a pain in the ass, It has to end :(
Conclusion: This is a perfect example of an excellent game with a few nagging faults. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is incredible, perhaps the best cinematic experience we’ve seen. It’s a must have for all PS3 owners, even if it's just for the single player. Multiplayer is even more fantastic, producing incredibly entertaining online battles, with and against friends. If it were not for those few rough edges, Uncharted 2 would be the perfect game.
Summary: When the Playstation 3 first came out, it suffered from the same issue that most new consoles face: A lack of quality launch titles. Even worse, the system exclusives were weak. God of War II had recently come out…for the PS2. For a system that cost three times the amount of the other new kid on the block, the Nintendo Wii, the PS3 was in a very perilous position.
Excerpt: I enjoyed Uncharted ever since I played the first one. Honestly, I was scared of playing this because I feared how long the chapters were....and of course, it was long...longer than the first. The humors and storyline is amazing, and why I like it the most. Drake is serious and wants to the hero, and he has his witty comebacks.
Conclusion: I'll say it again: Uncharted 2 is a must-buy, and a definite system seller, particularly for anyone who thinks the PS3 isn't capable of matching, say, the graphical power of the 360 (just wait till you see the snow). The single-player is enthralling and the multiplayer is a hell of a lot of fun, too. And once the credits roll, you'll immediately want to start playing it again.
Pros: In a word: platinum. You will love this game.
Cons: Uh, the stealth in Chapter 2 can be a little tricky to pull off if you don't take care of things quickly. Oh, and the game eventually ends.
Excerpt: Drake is a kick-ass sort of super-cool guy who seems completely in control whether he's gunning down hostiles, impersonating Spider-Man while exploring vast caverns for treasure or delivering devastating zingers with impeccable timing. Working as his support cast are TWO potential love interests, an equally sarcastic friend-turned foe, a gruff and shady mentor and, of course, a megalomaniac looking to take over the world. The script writes itself.
