Turok Review

PlayStation Universe
8 April 2009
  • Summary: Turok is your average FPS. There isn’t anything addictive or impressive about it at all, yet there isn’t anything that makes it a rough experience. It’s just what you’d expect out of any everyday shooter on the market (If you’re a vegetarian, this game also isn’t for you.
  • Pros: Stealth kills will keep you playing, Dialogue is half-decent, Online co-op for what it's worth
  • Cons: Storyline disappears halfway through, Cinematic quality is absurd, Textures need alot of work

Break it Down
26 March 2008
  • Excerpt: Summary [6.5 out of 10] Turok is a perfect example of a next-gen game almost being good, with close-minded, repetitive and sometimes punishing try-die-and-try-again game design dragging down some of the impressive technical accomplishments.

Prehistorically Old-School

TotalPlayStation.com
15 March 2008
  • Excerpt: The team at Propaganda Games, the whole lot of 'em, have some serious balls. That they would not only resuscitate the brand that encapsulated everything that went wrong with Acclaim but would keep almost everything about it, from multiplayer to the frugal use of checkpoints, completely old-school takes major cajones. I'm not saying it's made a good game -- quite the opposite -- but that they were willing to stick to their guns means they earn some props from me.

Expert Review

TheStar.com
6 March 2008
  • Excerpt: Consistently stunning, visually, as you'd expect from any old new-generation shooter, Turok is only sporadically fun, and you've played it before under some other no-neck name, and probably with an original sense of purpose.

Turok

Strategy Informer
4 March 2008
  • Conclusion: With all that said, Turok's various glitchy elements eventually come together to form an averagely enjoyable shooter. Parts of the game are memorable, and the alternative-fire modes on each weapon are innovative and occasionally fun to use. However, when you look at the best moments that you'll have with the game, most of them will come from exploiting the silly AI routines, or simply rampaging through the jungle on a Serious Sam level of destruction, mainly borne out of...

Turok

Evil Avatar
14 February 2008
  • Excerpt: Turok is the 5th game in the franchise. While the first title in the series was fairly well received, the latter titles left much to be desired. The story puts you in the role of Turok trying to track down is old teacher Kane for some unknown reason. Suddenly the space ship Turok is on comes under attack and crash lands onto a planet filled with dinosaurs and other creatures.
  • Pros: Fairly solid single player campaign with lots of fun little moments, Graphics are decent...most of the time, Great use of Surround Sound
  • Cons: Some issues with online matchmaking taking a while, Co-Op while present, leaves a little to be desired
