Excerpt: Trine is a really cool downloadable game on the Playstation 3 (PS3), and Personal Computer (PC). Players have three characters that they rotate around depending upon the situation. There is a female thief, a male knight, and a male wizard. They all get drawn to the same place which begins their journey. This game is played in 2D, and is side scrolling. There is some vertical movement so it is not just left to right.
Conclusion: Final Verdict: Definitely pick this up, as the game is well worth the $10 price. The game is beautiful to look at, unique in style, and most importantly, fun to play. We give it an eight out of ten.
Summary: I know that I have done nothing but sing Trine’s praises until this point, so let me shed a little light on what I didn’t like. For me, the game can definitely hit that “Not again!” frustration button a little too often, causing me to have to put it down and switch to something else. There were mechanics and perks that I felt were poorly introduced-giving me freedom is great, throwing mechanics in and leaving me to the wolves to figure them out is less desirable.
Conclusion: Concept: Explore a lush fantasy world with three colorful and distinct heroes
Graphics: Glowing flora and giant fauna are depicted in vibrant glowing hues
Sound: Too much repeated music, but the voice acting is amusing
Playability: You have to learn three different characters’ movesets.
Conclusion: Thankfully for the most part the scrapping is lighthearted and comical, and definitely secondary to building makeshift bridges, swinging across ravines and generally letting the glorious worldcraft fill your skull like a sugary cocktail of fermented children’s dreams. Trine 2 is a rare and beautifully cut gem of a game, and makes for a wonderful end to a season of extremely strong releases.
Conclusion: Trine is a wonderful addition to the PlayStation Network and a worthy buy for anyone who enjoys cooperative games. While it can be played alone, it is really meant to be enjoyed by three people together if at all possible. I hope developer Frozenbyte returns to the Trine universe in the near future, as they are on to something here and have a winning formula. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to it. This last level is a doozy.
