Tomb Raider: Underworld

playmagazine

  • Conclusion: And wouldn’t you know it, the action is merely OK. On a cynical day I might say I kind of dislike it in moments, but its place becomes better served the later you get through the game. Learn to work with the acrobatics of Lara within the lock-on combat foundation and it can be fun, but at times shootouts call attention to the artifice of the world when Lara gets caught up in spots where her movements become jarring.

Tomb Raider: Underworld Review

VideoGamer.com
2 April 2009
  • Excerpt: Lara Croft is one of a dying breed of video game icons from the mid 90s. She was once seen as a pin-up for PlayStation and helped convince thousands (if not millions) of gamers that they needed to ditch their 16-bit consoles in favour of a shinier, more powerful 32-bit monster. Needless to say, the rest is history, with Tomb Raider now standing as one of the most popular video game series ever created.

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Playstation Illustrated
1 April 2009
  • Excerpt: Much like Tomb Raider: Legend , Tomb Raider: Underworld looks absolutely gorgeous. Many of the game's areas are lush and tropical and the water is so stunning that you can stare at it for an extended length of time and be simply mesmerized. Lara is looking good as always, but she has slightly aged, which is actually nice to see.

Lara Is Back

GIN
16 March 2009
  • Excerpt: Lara Croft, one of the iconic babes of the video game world, is back in Tomb Raider Underworld. The game opens with a recap of the storyline and I was thankful of that cause my memory is not very good. The action heats up right away as Lara's lovely mansion is torched and you have to get her butt out of there. But stop right there, the game then takes you back to the middle of the Mediterranean Sea where the sea floor is your destination.

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Auracore MediaWorks
19 January 2009
  • Summary: Combat the most dire enemy yet in a Tomb Raider game: the camera.
  • Pros: The graphics are phenomenal; Lara's moves are silky smooth; new moves in Lady Croft's arsenal are useful; gunplay tweaks; no quick-time events; exploring feels much more natural.
  • Cons: 90% of combat is against bugs & bats; not a single boss battle to be found; one of the worst cameras ever in a Tomb Raider game; some parts of the story feel unnecessary; far too short.

Tomb Raider Underworld

Hardcore Gamer
29 December 2008
  • Summary: It’s been a little over two years since we last had the pleasure of accompanying Lara Croft on her quests to uncover ancient secrets that are best left undisturbed. It seems you just can’t keep a good heroine down, which is why Lara is returning to reclaim her former glory in Tomb Raider Underworld . This will mark the first time Tomb Raider has appeared on current generation consoles, so it’s only fair to expect a few changes to the look and feel of the gameplay.
