You're Better off Pumping Quarters into the Standup Arcade

  • Conclusion: Unfortunately, this is not the game I had hoped it would be. I had visions of a multiplayer shooter that I would be able to share with my buddies. That's not the case. In fact, I'll be placing my copy of Time Crisis 4 and Guncon 3 controllers on Ebay to make room for my ever expanding game library. If you liked the previous versions of Time Crisis for the PS2, then you'll probably love this game.

Time Crisis 4 + Guncon 3 Controller

Break it Down

  • Excerpt: Summary Introduction Unboxing / Accessories Guncon 3 Calibration Note to Reader Review Conclusion Areas of Improvement Summary [6.5 out of 10] Time Crisis 4 can be a blast; a lot like having one of the arcade machines in your house. No wireless and lack of 2nd controller combined with the $90 price point was a disappointment. UPDATE : It seems Amazon.com actually carries this game for $75 with free shipping, which negates my problems with the $90 price point.

  • Excerpt: Game which use a peripheral such as a gun and I go way back. I threw endless quarters into Operation Wolf and then into Police Trainer at the arcades over the years and even now, I have a tough time passing a light gun game without at least looking. I have played Time Crisis 4 in the arcades very recently, and getting to play it at home without needing to hit the ATM anytime I thought sounded like an awesome idea.

  • Excerpt: Time Crisis is one of Namco's oldest franchises, dating back over a decade in age it came about shortly after Sega's light-gun shooter Virtua Cop, and three years after Konami's Lethal Enforcers. Time Crisis would become the most well known of the light-gun shooters, and Namco didn't limit the appeal of gun games to simply shooters, as the GunCon controller also received three Point Blank games - an amusement park-esque game with tons of shooting galleries to partake in,...

Time Crisis 4 Review

  • Excerpt: Let me start off with this: if you love the past Time Crisis titles, you’ll probably enjoy this game just as much. It really does nothing too different from the Time Crisis formula (other than add a horrible first-person mode which I’ll get to later), and allows you to play a lightgun game without lugging out your older consoles. That being said, if you don’t absolutely love the Time Crisis franchise, you’ll probably find little worth in this $90 game.

Time Crisis 4 Review (PS3)

7 July 2008
  • Excerpt: PS3 Crisis as Wii do better light gun games! Light Gun games: at one time you could only play the likes of Time Crisis and Area 51 either at your local Arcade (Remember them!) or on the Playstation. With the advent of the PS2, we had a Guncon 2 to shoot at the tv, with the like s of Time Crisis 2 & 3 as well as Ninja Assault. Things seemed to go quiet on the light gun front for home console.
  • Pros: Arcade mode is classic Time Crisis, Guncon 3 is very accurate.
  • Cons: FPS mode is pants, Guncon 3 is Orange, not wireless and looks rubbish.

Time Crisis 4 review

Gameplanet
7 May 2008
  • Excerpt: A "light gun" title that rates on the high side of the genre. Unfortunately the genre is fairly rubbish, so this isn't a huge achievement. When will game developers drop this tired concept?
  • Pros: G-Con 3 controller could be described as "accurate", in the same way that pellet guns at A&P sideshows run by crooked gypsies are "accurate". The game might entertain a bunch of ten-year-olds for several hours.
  • Cons: Totally nonsensical plot, dated graphics, awkward controls, overpriced hardware, primitive sound effects, characters couldn't demonstrate more cheese if they'd been sponsored by Anchor.
