Excerpt: The Last of Us: Left Behind is the first singleplayer downloadable content released for the game consisting of two intertwined flashback sequences played from Ellie’s perspective. Developer Naughty Dog recommends that you play Left Behind after completing the main game as this DLC contains a couple of major spoilers related to The Last of Us’ plot.
Summary: After a couple minor multiplayer DLC add-ons for Naughty Dog's critical darling ' The Last of Us ,' the Sony-exclusive developer is finally delivering what fans of the game really want: more story. 'The Last of Us Left Behind' is Naughty Dog's first DLC story episode (for any game), and Naughty Dog has made it clear that 'Left Behind' would be the only story DLC for 'The Last of Us.
Conclusion: Left Behind is pretty short, but very sweet, and for what it lacks in length, it makes up for in quality. Well worth the investment for those who want to revisit or otherwise experience a new story (well, two) within the despair-filled world of The Last Of Us.
The Last of Us: Left Behind Review: More great storytelling leaves less room for gameplay
14 February 2014
Summary: Such is the high bar set by Naughty Dog that we expected a little more from this bite-sized DLC package. Nonetheless, Left Behind is gloriously produced with an excellent storyline spin-off that gives you a deeper insight into Ellie's character.
Pros: Stunning recreation of an abandoned shopping mall. Graphically unmatched throughout., Strong storytelling and character building gives you insight into another side of Ellie, Excellent voice acting with real emotion from the two main characters
Cons: Ending could have made even more of an impact, More character-building means less time for gameplay highlights, A particular jarringly difficult combat section where death is inevitable
Conclusion: The Last of Us comes into existence with merit before dropping into familiar pitfalls. It is this generation’s representative: Expensive and glossy AAA gaming that draws itself into marketing through bloodshed whether it serves the narrative or not. Illogically repetitious tasks are inane busywork, but humanity trumps all. Joel and Ellie have too important a story to tell between fits of forced escalation.
Pros: Alluring production value – Outstanding voice work – grim ambiguous ending - Apocalypse rendered without compromise
Excerpt: Naughty Dog has managed to create a beautiful story within something as dark as a zombie apocalypse with The Last of Us . The game has you coming to terms with your own mortality and makes you second-guess the people you would trust your own life with during such a bleak time. In preparing for such a catastrophic event, you would need to make sure you have enough resources, learn how to protect what you have and of course employ ways to prevent getting bitten.
