Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3 review

GamesRadar
25 June 2012
  • Excerpt: When you’ve got rail-riding hobos, nattily dressed Flair-wolves and feral Vagrats (giant bipedal rats down on their luck) beating down your door, who ya gonna call? The Startling Developments detective agency, that’s who. Adventurers and occultists Jonathan Gabriel and Tycho Brahe are the Sherlock and Watson-style alter-egos to the webcomic favorites of the same name.
  • Pros: Hilarious yet tactical RPG hijinks, The good-natured sense of parody, Such a low price point
  • Cons: Heavy doses of dialogue, A moment or two of bad pacing, Waiting till 2013 for Zeboyd’s sequel

The Darkness Review (PS3)

About.com
16 May 2009
  • Conclusion: The Darkness is most likely going to be the best game this summer, and I'd say it is one of the top 5 PS3 games out, to date. Be warned, the Darkness is truly for mature audiences. Demon possessed gangsters are not suitable playmates for the kiddos. But for the grownups in your home, the Darkness provides a visceral, frightening, clever game that will suck you in with innovative gameplay and an intriguing story.
  • Pros: The Darkness is one of the best looking games out there, It would be my pick for best voice acting, Dark, violent, and oddly funny, Intuitive controls and interface let you focus on the game, The Darkness spins a yarn that you will actually want to pay attention to, The Darkness is one of the best looking games out there, It would be my pick for best voice acting, Dark, violent, and oddly funny, Intuitive controls and interface let you focus on the game, The Darkness ...

The Darkness

PS3style.com
21 October 2007
  • Conclusion: The Darkness is a mature game that completely lives up to its M-rating. Playing this game a second time definitely made me desire a sequel to visit Jackie’s dark world again. As of now there is no other game on the PS3 that is similar to this, so if you own Sony’s big black box it is highly recommended that you play this game.

Expert Review

TheStar.com
4 July 2007
  • Excerpt: Based on the namesake Top Cow Productions comic, created by the developers of the critically-hailed Chronicles of Riddick videogame, The Darkness is a self-contained New York city beef between brazen modern-day, matter-of-fact gangsterism and lurking, unknowably-old, supernatural whoop-ass. It's not deep, it's not uplifting, it's got nothing particularly poignant to say... but, Yog-Sothoth save us, it's awesomely-presented, and fun while it lasts.
