The Club Review

PlayStation Universe
8 April 2009
  • Summary: The Bottom Line: The Club may or may not resonate with you, it depends entirely on what type of gamer you are. If always trying to top the leaderboards, this is certaintly the title for you; if not, you may want to try it out before you buy.
  • Pros: Fantastic visuals, Customizable playlists, Plethora of entertaining online modes
  • Cons: Repetitive nature of the Tournament, No headset support, No stat tracking for online play

The Club

Strategy Informer

  • Conclusion: Overall though, the fact that a large portion of the shooter audience will be turned off by the core design doesn't alter the fact that Bizarre has undoubtedly accomplished every goal set in the original remit. The Club is an adrenaline-fuelled, addictive theme park ride with an all-day free pass.

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: The Club appears to be a rather mediocre shooter in an incredibly overpopulated genre, aiming itself at gamers who have just come through 6 months of the best games console shooters have ever offered. It may not have the glamorous swagger of Master Chief or the chest felt tension of Call of Duty 4, but The Club manages to keep its head held high with a stylish combo and scoring system that makes it more addictive than Kate Moss' own brand of superglue.

Old Boys'... Well, You Know

TotalPlayStation.com
15 March 2008
  • Excerpt: It can be a difficult thing, getting lighting to strike twice -- particularly where video games are concerned -- but UK developers Bizarre Creations have done it not twice but by my count Moving that system into a third-person shooter certainly seems like a solid idea, though it takes the kind of keen sense of balance that Bizarre has honed with their racing games.

The Club

GameTrailers
28 February 2008
  • Excerpt: How often during a session of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater have you wanted to continue your killer combo with a little bit of, well, killing? There’s a little something between the visceral lust for violence and that of racking up a big score, and The Club attempts to interlink the two, directly, and non-stop.

  • Excerpt: Under blazing gung-ho gunnery there is zen-like simplicity to The Club that boils down to an experience akin to "wax-on, wax-off." That, plus rocket launchers.

ME Gamers
22 February 2008
  • Excerpt: First Impressions My reaction is The Club is an action based game produced by Bizarre Creation (PGR series) and published by SEGA. Those are two very well experienced parties involved in the creation of a title that has been grabbing a lot of attention in the past few months. So what exactly is The Club? The Club is a game that pits your character in over 40 levels with one main objective on mind, survive and kill everyone else WITH STYLE.

The Club Review

GameSpot
20 February 2008
  • Summary: The Club provides some old-school single-player thrills, but it fails to live up to its initial promise.
  • Pros: The urge to go back to beat scores becomes overwhelming, The balance between style and survival is just right, Characters and zones are well designed artistically
  • Cons: The weapons feel underpowered in multiplayer, Gunfire sounds lacklustre
