Excerpt: SuperStars V8 RACING is a downloadable game on the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3). This racing game feels like an F-1 racing game, but done with different vehicles. There are eleven different teams, and nineteen different drives from the Superstar Series. Players can play SuperStars V8 RACING in arcade or sim mode. The ten different tracks in this PS3 game are extremely challenging.
Excerpt: Publisher O-Games has teamed with racing developer Milestone ( Evolution GT , MotoGP 07/08 ) to bring a downloadable exclusive through PlayStation Network by the name of Superstars V8 Racing . Racing games have come a long way in videogame history and the cars in this one look nearly as good as in AAA retail titles from the start. Unfortunately, that is where the beautiful visuals end.
Conclusion: experience as you will be hard pressed to find any players to start a race with online. The single player modes consist of single race, time trial, race weekend, championship mode and superstar licenses. The two most notable modes are the championship mode and superstar licenses. The championship mode sees you attempt to gain the most points after a series of races.
Excerpt: 2010 has been a solid year for racers, bringing gamers titles like Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit , Blur , and Gran Turismo 5 . So where does Superstars V8 Racing fit into all this? It tries to differentiate itself by utilizing the official license of the Superstars Series racing league, meaning you’ll be traveling in excess of 400 mph often. Unfortunately, that distinction doesn’t add much to the game, resulting in a by-the-numbers racer with a lack of meaningful content.
Summary: A rather decent return to auto racing for Milestone. Hopefully they won’t be gone for another four years and will come back soon with something that blows the doors off of this one. Until then, this is a pretty decent option.
Conclusion: For a newly released racing game at the price point of $19.99, I was pleasantly surprised with the wealth of content and solid gameplay mechanics Milestone incorporated into the game. After investing 15 hours into the game; both online and off, I’m still finding loads of stuff to do in Superstars V8 Racing.
Conclusion: Superstars V8 Racing is a worthy PSN title to pick up for racing fans. That being said, it isn’t as cheap as most store offerings, and so just how essential it is depends on your budget. I enjoyed my time with V8 Racing , and I know plenty of other people will too.
Excerpt: Over the past six months or so, we’ve watched some seriously large and relatively accomplished titles hit the digital download realm. Although they’re still a far cry from the full, big-budget $60 productions, they’re also many, many times more technically proficient than they were at the start of the generation.
