Space Invaders Infinity Gene (PS3) - Review
4 October 2010
Excerpt: Space Invaders Infinite Gene is a SHMUP based on the Space Invaders franchise that evolves the game from the simple side to side shooting of the past. You start out the first level playing a classic game of Space Invaders with only one ship type to choose from and basic enemies to fight but as you gain points the game evolves.
Summary: The chunky aliens who first caused a worldwide sensation with the arcade release of Space Invaders in 1978 have come back with a vengeance during the past few years, with 2008's Space Invaders Extreme and its sequel cleverly updating the shoot-'em-up classic for a whole new generation of high-score fiends. The good news is that this latest invasion shows no signs of flagging. Space Invaders: Infinity Gene is the most exciting entry in the series yet.
Pros: Evolutions introduce elements that significantly change the game, Excellent level design and enemy variety keeps things fun and unpredictable, Strikes a good balance between challenging and rewarding you, Great presentation, Plenty of content for your money
Cons: Too many disappointing unlocks take the thrill out of evolving, Sometimes difficult to discern deadly threats from background details
