Skylanders Giants

Destructoid
2 September 2013
  • Summary: Skylanders was one of the biggest surprises of 2011. Pretty much everyone expected it to be a cheap cash-in of 90s nostalgia to sell toys to unsuspecting kids -- and boy, were we wrong. It was actually a pretty fun, serviceable action game, and the toy craze took off like wildfire. Now here we are in 2012 with the sequel, featuring even bigger Skylanders and even more toys. In light of this, I have bad news for you folks: it's time to break out your wallets again.

  • Excerpt: One of the most innovative games of 2011 is back with Skylanders Giants ! The idea of the original Skylanders was ingenious, combine action figures with a video game via a special "Portal of Power" and voila... you had a true interactive gaming experience with the real world. Best of all, the action figures that came with Skylanders looked impressive and additional toys could be purchased with each figure having different powers and abilities that affected the overall...

Skylanders: Giants (PS3) - Review

VGChartz
24 October 2012
  • Excerpt: There is a good chance you have heard of Skylanders . There is a decent chance you have seen the huge Skylanders display in the electronics section of a retail store. Given how successful the first game was, there is an equally good chance you already have a small army of these plastic fantasy figures standing guard around the gaming consoles in your home.

Skylanders Giants

Digital Chumps

  • Conclusion: While it has its share of bugs and is qualitatively a mere expansion of the original in many ways, Skylanders Giants is still a full-blown sequel, featuring more Skylanders, more in-game collectibles, and larger and arguably more robust levels (albeit fewer) than the original. If more Skylanders is what you’re after, this is what you’ve been looking for.

Skylanders Giants

The Gamers Temple
12 October 2012
  • Excerpt: A good part of this review will be familiar to those of you experienced with the first Skylanders game because, frankly, there's not much that's different in the game series' second iteration. Once again the game's core features are the Skylanders action figures and the Portal of Power that brings them to life in the game.

Skylanders Giants

Gamereactor

  • Conclusion: For a long time Spyro was down in the dumps. The dragon who once rubbed shoulders with the likes of Mario, Sonic and Crash, seemed to have completely run out of steam - and most probably assumed he would be permanently retired. Several developers had tried to reinvent the franchise, but they kept coming up with games worse than the one before.
  • Pros: + New abilities. + Raised level cap. + Giants are a nice addition. + Accessible.
  • Cons: - We've seen most of this before. - At times blurry graphics. - Framerate issues.
