Summary: I love the Skate, franchise, the graphics, and the realism. BUT the career mode, well there isn't really one. You just go around doing random photoshoots. Plus, getting off your board is a little annoying because when you're walking around your guy doesn't really respond as fast as you'd like. But after that its a sick game, with awesome online stuff, and great free skating!
Summary: I bought this game for my son who is a avid Skateboard fan. He has played it non stop and has even used the online function. A good by for s8r's who enjoy watching others hurt themselves without going through physical pain themselves
Conclusion: I must admit I have been looking forward to this game since I completed the original Skate, I loved the way it was so different. Using a brand new control system and going for a realistic take on the sport rather than the way over the top Tony Hawk games, there were issues though. You couldn't get off your board, the online was very laggy and the goals were very trick specific which became very frustrating very quickly, but the new Skate has attempted to solve these...
Summary: The sequel to Skate was always going to be released due to the popularity it got, mainly due to the innovative Flickit control system. Everyone was pleased to have another choice other than the Tony Hawks series. Probably the biggest new feature is being able to move objects around, such as kickers, ledges, rails and ramps to fit your line and skate how you want to. This was done by allowing the player to get off his board now and travel San Van on foot.
Pros: New features, slightly better graphics, online
Skate 2 (PS3): Skate 2: A great game but not if you own the prequel
19 March 2009
Summary: I loved the first Skate, so when I heard they were making a second, natrually I was very happy. Unfortunatly though Skate 2 did not live up completely to my expectations. Again it is a very relaxed and easy game to play which is what I loved about the first one and the flickit controls make the game all the more special.
Summary: I was so excited about this game after playing and loving the original SKATE. I feel really let down because this isn't really any change from the first one, it feels exactly the same, looks exactly the same and most of the characters are the same. It's almost like a re-make with a couple of little extras and getting charged £40 to play it! Don't get me wrong this is a brilliant game but...
Summary: Skate was a reaction to sequels, a youthful breath of uncluttered thinking in the face of the incremental gimmickry that sent Tony Hawk tottering into stodgy middle age. That puts Skate 2 in an awkward position from the start. The game's response is, unavoidably, that of almost any other follow-up: on top of the clean lines of the original, Black Box now lays on additions, refinements and rebalancing.
